Ali Binazir Author Of The 5 Hidden Love Questions

From my list on reboot your life, get happier and flourish.

Why am I passionate about this?

What makes some people, communities and countries happier and healthier than others? I’m a personal growth author, speaker, and therapist with an A.B. in Biology from Harvard, M.D. from UCSD, and M.Phil. from Cambridge. For the past 12 years of calling myself a Happiness Engineer, I’ve traveled to 30+ countries and read 150 books a year to answer that question. The result: “The 5 Pillars of Human Thriving”, the irreducible requirements for health and happiness, namely Robust Relationships, Meaningful Work, Sound Sleep, Mental Fitness, and Physical Fitness. These books, drawn from a pool of thousands, represent the best works I’ve found for each Pillar. May you find them transformational!

Ali's book list on reboot your life, get happier and flourish

Ali Binazir Why Ali loves this book

As an avid student and practitioner of sleep, I was always looking for a book on sleep science, both for myself and my Happiness Engineering students. There just wasn’t oneuntil Matthew Walker’s book came along. And it’s great! From a real sleep scientist! And he’s funny! With great hair!

Joking aside, this is the essential text on how sleep works and why we need it so badly. If I spend a third of my life doing something, I’d sure want to know the proper technique. Even more important, it made me super aware of the paramount importance of sleep to health. This is one of my top-recommended books ever. I got my sleep religion through it and hope you do, too.

Book cover of The Oxygen Advantage: Simple, Scientifically Proven Breathing Techniques to Help You Become Healthier, Slimmer, Faster, and Fitter

Navaz Habib Author Of Upgrade Your Vagus Nerve: Control Inflammation, Boost Immune Response, and Improve Heart Rate Variability with New Science-Backed Therapies

From my list on upgrading your health and vitality.

Why am I passionate about this?

I personally have struggled with weight, blood sugar, and blood pressure challenges while I was in my teens and twenties. It was through functional medicine and many of the strategies I share in my book that I was able to create a positive shift in my own health and support the health of my clients. In my education and subsequent research, the Vagus nerve always stuck out to me as a unique and underrepresented component of the health journey. My curiosity regarding human anatomy and physiology led me to this important and missing answer: enabling our bodies to enter a healing state and initiate the recovery of our health.

Navaz's book list on upgrading your health and vitality

Navaz Habib Why Navaz loves this book

This book opened my eyes to the importance of learning to breathe correctly and the fact that very few people actually understand how to breathe.

I learned that the breath is the primary tool that we have conscious control over, which allows us to impact our physiology and the overall function of our cells. The impact that our breath has led me to understand how important it is in supporting brain health, weight loss, autonomic control, and immune system function.

I have used this information personally to significantly improve my workouts and bike rides and optimize my recovery days.

With a foreword by New York Times bestselling author Dr. Joseph Mercola.

Book cover of The Power of Vulnerability: Teachings on Authenticity, Connection and Courage

Mechal Renee Roe Author Of I'm Growing Great

From my list on expanding your inner vision and allowing life to rush in.

Why am I passionate about this?

My name is Mechal Roe and I have loved creating fun and colorful art to inspire the inner child in all of us. I began my journey in children's print design and worked my way up to Clothing Designer. It was quite rewarding, and I learned so much. After, I left to create a children's book and toys to serve underrepresented youth. Creating the book was a form of introspection to move me along my heart's path. It was also a gift to those young ones who also struggle with understanding themselves in the world.

Mechal's book list on expanding your inner vision and allowing life to rush in

Mechal Renee Roe Why Mechal loves this book

I recommend this book because I am a survivor of the pre-social media era, where bikes and street lights reigned. The stark contrast of being a senior in high school, thinking I would never see my classmates again, to being a freshman in college and friends with the majority of them on Facebook was reminiscent of the Beagle Channel where the Pacific and Atlantic oceans meet; day and night. Watching their lives unfold twenty-plus years later has been an unexpected bonus.

With the unimaginable accessibility that social media has given, it also brought a version of myself that did not translate well online and thus weakened my connections over the years. The fear of judgment and being perceived increased, and reading Brene' Brown's book helped shed light on the involuntary actions of connection atrophy.

This book is one I will continue to read throughout my life to help my heart…

What is this book about?

Show Up and Let Yourself be Seen

Is vulnerability the same as weakness? "In our culture," teaches Dr. Brene Brown, "we associate vulnerability with emotions we want to avoid such as fear, shame, and uncertainty. Yet we too often lose sight of the fact that vulnerability is also the birthplace of joy, belonging, creativity, authenticity, and love." On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise-that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels…

Book cover of How to Be Fine: What We Learned from Living by the Rules of 50 Self-Help Books

Amethyst Marie Author Of A Snag in the Tapestry: Thalia's Musings Volume 1

From my list on offbeat sense of humor.

Why am I passionate about this?

When people ask what kind of books I like to read, I can’t answer with a genre. As a kid, I’d come home from the library with mysteries, Westerns, fantasies, non-fiction books, and comic books in the same stack. I’ve always liked books that introduce me to fun characters, take these characters on fantastical adventures, make me laugh at least a little, and leave me with a sense of hope and triumph. They can be anything from cheesy romcoms to dark thrillers to complicated biographies. This is reflected in my fantasy series, Thalia’s Musings, which has been praised for its realistic treatment of abuse and also compared to Friends.

Amethyst's book list on offbeat sense of humor

Amethyst Marie Why Amethyst loves this book

This non-fiction book is probably the most categorically comedic on my list. Greenberg, a comedian, and Meinzer, a critic, are the hosts of a podcast called By the Book, in which every episode documents their attempt to follow a new self-help book to the letter for two weeks. After a few years of doing this, they co-wrote their own self-help book based on their experience and narrated the audio version. The result is insightful, irreverent, and hilarious.

A humorous and insightful look into what advice works, what doesn't, and what it means to transform yourself, by the co-hosts of the popular By the Book podcast.

From diet and productivity to decorating to social interactions, they try it all, record themselves along the way, then share what they've learned with their devoted and growing audience of fans who tune in.

Why am I passionate about this?

Even worse, the fire kept judging me for not knowing things and telling me I didn’t work quickly enough. These books are, in part, what got me through that time and helped me back on my feet—I hope they do the same for you.

Mariah Avery Why Mariah loves this book

Sometimes, you need someone to yell at you (lovingly) through a book. Knight's no-nonsense guide is like a friend who calls you out and then hands you a to-do list, making life's chaos a lot more manageable—with a side of sass.

This book doesn't teach you how to be a behavior analyst, but it will teach you how to live a little better. I recommend it because it can help you manage your time and tasks effectively, which is crucial in the field of ABA. Please note that, as the title suggests, there is explicit language, and it may not be suitable for everyone.
