This book had all my favourite things: wit and cleverness, interesting characters, adventure, mystery, and a side of romance (well, maybe a sprinkling). And I couldn't help but feel comforted by the late night tea and toast in the kitchen post-adventure. It was quaint and lovely.

I liked the exploration of a moral dilemma through the lens of a supposed 'monster' but it wasn't a heavy read, more Vodka Cruiser than Cabernet Sauvignon.

I absolutely loved this story (and it's sequel)! While it is a departure from Ali Hazelwood's usual contemporary STEM romances, she brought her A-game to this series as well. I was captivated by the rich world-building and immersive feel from page one. We are sucked into a world with vampires, weres, and humans and their centuries-long war for dominance, all told through the perspective a vampire who feels misunderstood and alone. I loved the character Misery, who will do anything to find her best friend, the sister of her heart, including marry an Alpha were she has never met so she can search in his territory. For anyone who loves fantasy, romance, or who enjoys great love stories of any genre, this book is for you.
The winner of the 2023 Booker prize for good reason. This is a brutal, unflinching look at the impact on an ordinary, hardworking family of an increasingly repressive government regime. Its simplicity is disarming. Its impact is huge.

This book was a revelation. I've read a little bit about plant intelligence, volition, community, etc., but I've never read a book filled with so many truly amazing insights based on contemporary science. At times, I felt as if the author was being a bit slipshod in her logic--she tends to assume that plants' behavior proves them to be sentient when in fact much of the behavior she examines might simply be evolved--but I'm willing to overlook that minor lapse in a book that made my head pop with so many new ideas.
"teeming with fascinating and enlightening insights" Observer

A great summertime escape. Abby Jimenez is a great writer, too. I would say Emily Henry esque, but maybe better! I devoured these books (all 3) in about a week.
