I loved so many things about this book, including the characters, the love story, the writing, and its originality. I grew up in homes where music was always playing and looking back, there is a soundtrack to my life. This lovely story used that idea. Everything in the story includes memories about music and I love the examples and lyrices in the book. Music can transport us to different places and times, so I was with the characters as they too were moved by music and creating it. I also love the magical realism in the story. The element of magic that connects the characters is grounded in what is a very normal and contemorary world that makes it feel true and possible.
💖Two musicians. One song stuck in their heads. Can they change their tune...or will it end in heartbreak first?💖

Joni Lark wants to create the melodies that get stuck in your head...and your heart.
Her hometown has always given her surf, sand, and inspiration. But when her parents decide to close the family music venue, Joni's life begins to fall off key - she couldn't possibly write another song. Until a melody comes to her, half-formed, and with an imagined voice that she can't forget.
But when the very real, very aggravating man behind the voice shows up in…
I absolutely loved this story (and it's sequel)! While it is a departure from Ali Hazelwood's usual contemporary STEM romances, she brought her A-game to this series as well. I was captivated by the rich world-building and immersive feel from page one. We are sucked into a world with vampires, weres, and humans and their centuries-long war for dominance, all told through the perspective a vampire who feels misunderstood and alone. I loved the character Misery, who will do anything to find her best friend, the sister of her heart, including marry an Alpha were she has never met so she can search in his territory. For anyone who loves fantasy, romance, or who enjoys great love stories of any genre, this book is for you.
One of the best books I've read in years. Heartbreaking. Sickening. Brilliant. Another fitting chapter of the Hunger Games. I loved learning how sixteen-year-old Haymitch won the 2nd Quarter Quell, because I was curious about what exactly had turned him into the snarky, alcoholic loner we see later. This book answers the question in emphatic form. Seeing him stripped down until he he nothing left to live for either, until Katniss and Peeta was heartbreaking.
Woven into this tragedy are many of the players of the future revolution, the seeds of discontent, and the forever evil President Snow. I was gutted by this book and wept openly for the final 80 pages. This story was absolutely brilliant because it gave so much more context and feeling to the rebellion in the Hunger Games series.
"Sunrise on the Reaping is a propulsive, heart-wrenching addition to The Hunger Games, adding welcome texture to the cruel world of Panem . This is the project of dystopian fiction: to shine a light in tyranny's greasiest corners and show how people - ordinary, determined human beings - might take it apart" - New York Times
"Collins is an excellent writer, and there are moments of surprising lyricism . Sunrise on the Reaping contains enough both to snare new readers and to satisfy the most bloodthirsty fan" - Guardian
