I listened to this book while on my distance runs in the evenings and weekends. The story format made the book easy to follow even while running, and listening to the audiobook (I’m typically a visual reader and prefer physical books). The biggest takeaways for me were reminders of the qualities and character traits that make a great leader (or coach).

My curiosity and enthusiasm for computers and what they can do has not faded since I first encountered them in grade school (with the Commodore VIC-20). Dan Lyons’ book is the “fish out of water” trope applied to high-tech. Pierpont Morgan, Winston Churchill, Sophocles, and more. I was a business school professor for 38 years, always fascinated by how organizations could (or couldn’t) adapt to their changing environments. Over the course of my career, I observed and studied how organizations sought to adapt to major disrupting forces such as new information-processing technologies, internationalization, downsizing, new organizational forms, digitization, and artificial intelligence. Today’s global business environment is complex, dynamic, and highly interconnected.
