100 Books Like Make It Sweet

I devoured Eli Brown's book. What a wild and exhilarating ride! The premise of a pirate captain kidnapping a chef and demanding a fancy weekly meal to save his life was genius. In fact, I was almost jealous. Not that I want to be kidnapped, but I would enjoy the pressure of creating something beautiful out of almost nothing, like being a contestant on a game show, but with more to lose.

My stomach growled through most of the book as I could practically smell the herbs and spices wafting off the page. I was most impressed by how far beyond the usual pirate fare this book went and how beautifully the unexpected and compelling romance naturally blossomed. It was such a clever blend of high-seas adventure and this really tender, delicious relationship. It was definitely a book that left me completely satisfied...and so hungry!

I love a great, happily-ever-after love story that makes you work for it. And that is what this book does. It is not so much the groundbreaking story of boy meets girl—girl hates boy—and then girl finds she has misunderstood boy all along.

It's a little like Pride and Prejudice meets When Harry Met Sally. I love that this book does for me what a great rom-com does: you know how it is going to end, but you lean in and thoroughly enjoy the journey.

What I found really took the cake in this romance was the way Roberts wove in the family catering business. It wasn't just a backdrop; it felt like another character in the story. Being immersed in that world of bustling kitchens and elegant events again reminded me of the stress and fun of working in kitchens to put myself through college and pay for my starving artist life in NYC.

The descriptions of the food were so tantalizing, making my mouth water and really adding to the sensual and intimate feel of Laurel's new love connection. It was like the act of creating and sharing food became this beautiful language between them, sparking conversations and nourishing their feelings in such a lovely way.

I found that the idea of "savoring" wasn't just about the delicious flavors; it perfectly captured the way their love story unfolded, making the whole book such… show more.

The large family dynamic immediately pulled me into this story about family, love, and learning to let go of expectations.

As someone who wishes I had a large family, adores love, and needs help going with the flow, it was a perfect fit. The sibling camaraderie and bickering, and how they all talk in quick succession and sometimes over each other, gives a depth and reality to the interactions. I loved that part best. 

Friends to lovers is one of the tropes I enjoy when done right, and this book does it right.

Add in the fake dating and the story is elevated to a thoroughly fun time. I loved the tension and secret pining between the two leads almost as much as the dynamic between Nathan (the male lead) and his teammates as well as the teammates with Bree (the female lead).

The scene where the football team helps Nathan make a playbook for getting out of the friend zone was one of my absolute favorites. Everyone’s personality shined and I love when friend groups are loud, fun, and chaotic. 

This book. The love story and the scenes between the leads had me swooning.

Seriously, I loved every second of the tension between the main characters: Brooke and Calvin. Brooke’s brother is in jail for murdering his best friend, who was also Calvin’s older brother. And no one knows why he did it.

They live in a small Texas town and their families have, for obvious reasons, become enemies. Their love is forbidden, but they can’t stay away from each other, even when their families are so important to them.

At the same time, the shadow of Brooke’s brother murdering Calvin adds a complication to their budding romance. This book has love, family, and a mystery to unravel and I loved every second of it. 

This book absolutely stole my heart with its enchanting Roman setting and the utterly swoon-worthy romance that blossomed through the most delectable Italian cuisine. Each of the chef’s gourmet meals sounded like a love song on a plate, and I was transported back to my own trip to Italy, where sounds of opera filled the streets and savory aromas of garlic and cheese filled the air.

The magical way the food was described made me wish I could eat the pages when I was done reading them, and I couldn't resist the unfolding story of mistaken identity, seasoned with humor and so much heart. This book was a feast for the senses and the soul, leaving me completely charmed and craving another romantic trip to Rome. Now that's amore!

This book aroused all of my senses. The way the author wove together the rekindling romance of Theo and Kit with such mouthwatering descriptions of food, wine, and the sheer joy of European travel was captivating. I could cut the sexual tension with a knife, and it awoke a hunger inside me. As a gay man, the friendly wager they made—the first to sleep with the Italian tour guide wins—is so relatable...and fun.

The book is written from an immersive first-person perspective, which I found particularly interesting. Getting to delve into their individual thoughts and feelings about their shared history made their reconnection feel so real and earned. It was such a lush and ultimately heartwarming story of finding love again, set against the most gorgeous scenery. I finished it feeling satisfied, but it left me with a serious craving for both a second read and a sexy… show more.

This book made me swoon. Sam has all of Tate’s important firsts - first love, first betrayal, and first heartbreak. Twice in a Blue Moon is the story of reconnecting and rewriting the wrongs of the past. It’s emotional, tender, redemptive, and impossible to put down. Christina Lauren’s signature witty banter and descriptive writing style pulls you into the book and keeps you there until the last page. It was one of my favorite pandemic reads!

Jubilee Jenkins is a character you will root for, cry over, and sometimes wish you could kick in the butt. She’s forced to face her fears after her mother dies, and she even gets a job - one that deals with the public.

Will she die? Will she be motivated to find a cure? Or will she spend her life longing–especially after she develops feelings for a man?

This book is full of hope, despair, and yearning, but those words alone don’t do it justice. It is also satisfyingly uplifting.
