As a romance fan, I thought the meta commentary on the romance genre made this book a standout. If you’re a romance fan who loves bookish characters like I do, you won’t be disappointed.

I loved how sharp, witty, and emotionally grounded it was. The banter was perfect, the characters felt real, and it flipped the typical romance tropes in such a satisfying way. It made me laugh, tear up, and genuinely root for the characters to get their happy ending.

Emily Henry immediately captivates readers from the very first page. Her talent for writing sharp, witty dialogue is undeniable—honestly, it’s the kind of writing that makes me, as a writer, want to step up my game! What really stands out, though, is how she creates characters that are flawed and relatable.

Book Lovers is a heartfelt journey about two people who feel like life is going in one direction, only to discover that fate has a way of surprising them. It’s a beautifully crafted story about love, self-discovery, and the twists and turns that life throws at them.

This book made me laugh aloud. It was well-written and parodies some of the commonly used tropes in romance. To my delight, the smart, determined career woman gets a happy ending. If you love rom coms, you'll love this book!

I love a great, happily-ever-after love story that makes you work for it. And that is what this book does. It is not so much the groundbreaking story of boy meets girl—girl hates boy—and then girl finds she has misunderstood boy all along.

It's a little like Pride and Prejudice meets When Harry Met Sally. I love that this book does for me what a great rom-com does: you know how it is going to end, but you lean in and thoroughly enjoy the journey.

I loved this book because it’s the only novel I’ve ever read during which I’ve said to myself, “I know these two are going to have a happy ending (the book is a romance, and the genre demands it), but I have absolutely no idea how they’re going to get there.”

This story was just so charming, funny, and full of romantic sweetness.

It’s a true book lover’s novel, and the interplay between the hero and heroine—both of whom work in the publishing industry—was filled with bookish references that were an utter delight for me as a longtime romance reader and writer. I found it to be a perfect beach read (or cozy winter read...), and the author’s writing style was so breezy and light, I couldn’t help but grin throughout.

There are many reasons to adore this book. I love the twist on the ‘Hallmark’ romance. You know the story. A big-city girl or man has to visit their hometown or a small town, and they find love, leaving behind their mean big-city girlfriend or boyfriend. In Book Lovers, the main character is the ‘mean’ power-driven girlfriend who’s dumped.

Emily Henry took the small-town trope in romance and flipped it on its head in this romantic comedy about two city slickers stuck in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina.

Complete with rescuing a small business, strengthening family ties, and finding enduring love, Henry manages to make this feel-good romp fresh and unique. A few laugh-out-loud moments made this story memorable and heartwarming. If you like small town romances, you’ll love this story.

The sisterly bond in this book and the hallmark parallels had me wanting to stay wrapped up in this cozy read as long as possible.

The mishaps along the way added a touch of humor that had me smiling as I read. And the interactions between ‘enemies turned lovers’ Nora and Charlie were great.
