4 Books Like Cher

There is just something about Becky Chambers writing, characters, and world.
This is cozy sci-fi that makes you really feel. I love that all the books feature a queer normative world.
I love everything about it.

I saw that this book was a part of a 3 book series, so I checked out book 1 and boy was I happy I did! I felt like it got a bot of a slow start, there were an overwhleming amount of characters, so it took awhile to "get to know them". I found the various story lines of the various characters engaging and I got very invested in the characters, even the villians! I think a reflection of a good story writer is one that is realistic about their characters. You can love the protagonist, but also not love some things about them. Same with the villians, you find yourself routing for them in a way. And, wow, what an ending! I found myself connecting to this book so deeply — even though our lives couldn’t be more different. Chelsea Handler’s blend of bold audacity and raw honesty is magnetic.
What truly pulled me in, though, was how she writes about loving her dogs, being a single woman forging her path in her own way, and showing up for herself with no apologies. Her commitment to living life on her terms, loving her canine family, and embracing vulnerability felt so familiar and so inspiring.

She doesn’t gloss over the hard parts — the breakups, the therapy, the search for meaning — but she reframes them with wit and courage. For me, reading her story was a reminder that you can still feel alone and unsure and yet choose to stand up for yourself and love in your own style.
