Book cover of Cher: Part One

Stephanie Lincoln ❀️ loved this book because...

I mean....what a life! What was suprising was that the first part of this book tells her grandmother's story and her mother story! It was like reading two memoirs before you even began with Chers memoir. What stories! I am such a memoir junkie and this one was just amazing. I couldn't put it down and I was just so mezmerized by the range of expereinces she had in her life (and this was only part 1)! I can't wait for part 2. Some people were bothered that Cher did not narrate the entire audio book. I didn't mind it. The narrator did a good job. Yall need to realize this woman is almost 80 years old. As someone who narrated her own memoir, its EXHAUSTING! I don't blame her for not narrating the entire thing. It's a 15 hour audio book, and this was just part one! I highly reccomend the audio book because even the snippets of narration that Cher did was so fun to hear her stories in her own voice.

My 2nd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of These Burning Stars

Stephanie Lincoln ❀️ loved this book because...

I saw that this book was a part of a 3 book series, so I checked out book 1 and boy was I happy I did! I felt like it got a bot of a slow start, there were an overwhleming amount of characters, so it took awhile to "get to know them". I found the various story lines of the various characters engaging and I got very invested in the characters, even the villians! I think a reflection of a good story writer is one that is realistic about their characters. You can love the protagonist, but also not love some things about them. Same with the villians, you find yourself routing for them in a way. And, wow, what an ending! I did not see it coming and it made me so eager to begin the 2nd book to find out what happens after a huge plot twist at the end.

My 3rd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of A Closed and Common Orbit

Stephanie Lincoln πŸ‘ liked this book because...

This is the second book in a 3 book series. I have read books 1 and 2 in this series. The reason why I didn't list the 1st book as my favorite is because I think the second book was better than the 1st. AND, you actually don't really need to read the 1st book to enjoy the 2nd book. They can stand independently. I was suprised at how much I liked these books! There wasn't really anything unique about it, as far as a science fiction goes, but what made this book great was the character building. I found myself tearing up over the sad moments in the book and becoming extremely fond of the characters. What I liked about both of the books is the seperate story lines on each of the characters. The suprise about the second book is that you expect it to continue to follow the main characters from the 1st book. But no! It actually follows ancillary characters from the 1st book and you get a backstory and a future story of each of these anciallry characters and they become the main characters in the second book. Really brilliant. Its a fun read. And yes, more tears in the second book. But I love that came to care so much about these characters that I got emotional about them. Becky Chambers has a gift of character building.
