Nancy MacCreery Why Nancy loves this book

This was just what I needed to read - a fun, fast-reading romance with captivating banter and characters who were caring people who did kind things (despite what they believed about each other at the beginning). I loved that Liesel, the main female character was intelligent and Cooper respected it - thought it didn't stop him from being attracted to her or ribbing her. And the oversized dad and goofy brothers were great additions to the story.

The only thing I hate worse than Christmas is Cooper Freaking Kellogg.Liesel:My reason for hating Christmas is simple: my mom loved Christmas, and now she’s gone. My reason for hating Cooper Kellogg is also simple: he annoys the jingle out of me. The all-star, all-ego player is on the injured list, and—lucky me!—we’re assigned to work on a special project together. Between awkward team events, a Christmas escape room, and some very inconvenient mistletoe, Coop and I are getting way too close for comfort. Then we’re trapped in a blizzard overnight, and Coop’s cocky grin slips, showing the man behind the…

The story begins with Harriet living with the 'perfect' guy named Jon, who she doesn't want to marry. When proposes in front of his horrid family, she knows it’s time to leave.
Harriet finds a new place, but there's complications. Luckily, Harriet has good friends.
It's a rom-come and the book has truly funny parts but it also highlights the toll emotional abuse can leave on a person, the importance of woman friends, and how a person can grow stronger when they stand up for themselves and others.

What is this book about?

'In Persuasion, Jane Austen is beginning to discover that the world is larger, more mysterious, and more romantic than she had supposed' Virginia Woolf

Jane Austen's moving late novel of missed opportunities and second chances centres on Anne Elliot, no longer young and with few romantic prospects. Eight years earlier, she was persuaded by others to break off her engagement to poor, handsome naval captain Frederick Wentworth. What happens when they meet again is movingly told in Austen's last completed novel. Set in the fashionable societies of Lyme Regis and Bath, Persuasion is a brilliant satire of vanity and pretension,…

Book cover of Lie Beside Me

Anne Brooke Author Of Where You Hurt The Most

From my list on couples working through a challenging relationship.

Why am I passionate about this?

As a writer, I’m fascinated by relationships, what makes them work and what might make them fail. And I’ve always been gripped by the power of two people who try to love each other, no matter how different they may be or what obstacles they face. I honestly believe that two people in love are far more than the sum of their parts and can create something magical that wouldn’t have been there without them. So, yes, I’m a romantic at heart but, even in these cynical times, I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I hope you love the books on this list as much as I do.

Anne's book list on couples working through a challenging relationship

Anne Brooke Why Anne loves this book

I love this book because, even though it’s a crime story, it’s also a rollercoaster ride through the story of the marriage of Louise and Niall, who are both in various ways involved in the crime.

Each person is lying for different reasons and each of them is terrified to tell the truth to each other for fear of how the other person might react. The plot takes them through moments of dark despair, utter dishonesty, anger, and even hatred, all of which is somehow part and parcel of the marriage they have created.

There is hope, however, and they come to realise a deeper truth about themselves and their relationship which, for me, was incredibly moving in an unexpected way.

K. B. Thorne Why K. B. loves this book

Just from the couple of books of hers that I've read so far, Moriarty has an amazing way of evoking emotion and fascination about her very real characters with all their virtues and flaws on display. She drops bits that seem like simple world-building but are relevant later in a way that looks effortless but grabs you when you put it together.

With Apples Never Fall in particular, the examination of one's life and choices through the lens of uncertainty, suspicion, and mystery was quite gripping and provoked some personally relevant emotions and life examination in the reader (me).

Book cover of Jane Eyre

Tracey Lee Author Of The Aphorism Club

From my list on how women find their voices, despite obstacles and opposition.

Why am I passionate about this?

I come from a long line of women who are survivors. Survivors of transportation, imprisonment, assault, poverty, illness. In all of them was a clawing determination to endure. My ancestors were not shrinking violets; they bore their pain with dignity, used their voices and their hopes for a better future to boost the next generation of girls to a better life. I am the recipient of their courage. I believe this is how our sisterhood should roll. What we fight for today, what we give a voice to, should not have to be fought for again. It is this passion that drives my work, my reading, and my life.

Tracey's book list on how women find their voices, despite obstacles and opposition

Tracey Lee Why Tracey loves this book

This has been my favourite book since I read it as a child.

I love Jane’s courage in the face of adversity, both in her childhood and as a woman. It is her moral compass that guides her through her life, determining the rightness and wrongness of situations. She grows up in a world that believes she should be silent and accept the single path offered to her.

The message in the book emboldened me as I grew up and had to make decisions to challenge the expected norms. I can’t help but find joy in the cyclic nature of the love story here. In patience, in steadfastness, she finds love and does not lose herself in the process.
