Why read it?
26 authors picked Fourth Wing as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?
I wasn't sure what to expect after all the hype this book received, but I totally get it now. The underdog MC is immediately someone to root for, and there were enough twists to keep me turning the pages late into the night, then jump online to order the next book in the series before I even finished the first.
Dragons. Who doesn’t love a good book with lots of dragons? I’m also a sucker for academies—here, schools to teach the potential dragon riders who will be bonded with their dragons until death do they part.
I am, however, not a lover of romances, and this book contains plenty of x-rated sexual encounters for those who enjoy heavy-breathing scenes. But when the plot turns to dragon and rider connections, then I’m hooked.
From Rick's list on most provocative series first fantasy books.
Having worked with kids from families with huge challenges, I love a hero who struggles because life is an uphill battle for them; it’s someone I root for. I enjoy well-written sci-fi and fantasy, and I’m a romantic, so I read this story non-stop; it’s full of political intrigue and dragon riding.
The star of the series is Violet Sorrengail. I rooted for this flawed hero; she’s barely strong enough for the physical challenges involved with dragon riding. I love her independent, feisty—in the best of ways—spirit. She challenges her self-doubt and is such an inspiring, well-drawn character…
From Charles' list on eclectic books with extremely engaging characters.

I'm going to start this off by saying I don't think this is necessarily a bad read, it just wasn't my cup of tea. I struggled to get into this book, but I was committed to finishing it since so many friends had read the book and loved it. By the 5-hour mark of the audiobook, I was debating DNFing but decided to just power on. I don't think I started getting invested in this read until about the halfway mark. This book is full of a lot of popular romance tropes like enemies to lovers, forced proximity, slow burn,…
I appreciated the fast pace nature and how the twists were not always what I expected. The magic/dragons system was also fun.
Such a great romantasy-- I heard people talking about it and loved the world-building, the character development, and the romance at the heart of the story.

Loved Violet’s character, the underdog winning against the odds
Dragons, great characters (including the dragons!), plot twists and political machinations. Did I mention dragons?
Sucks you in to its amazing fantasy world and makes it completely believable. There's wit and drama, tension aplenty, and several plot twists that will leave you breathless.
I enjoyed it so much I moved straight on to the sequel, 'Iron Flame'. Book 3, 'Onyx Storm' is due out in January 2025 and I'm gasping to find out what happens next.
This book is good. This might get me crucified, but I do think there are things that could have been done better. I would have liked to see more with Xaden’s crew, possibly even Xaden himself. I would have liked the underlying mystery to be more prevalent instead of just sort of jumping in at necessary places. (Violet is supposed to be the smart one, so I feel she could have been more focused on things that were odd)
Don’t get me wrong. This book is good. I liked it very much. I will be reading the others as well.…

Lots of action, twists, and worldbuilding and the dragons were amazing. I really liked the dragon-human interactions and the different signets. I enjoyed the characters as well.
