Another one that I'd had on my TBR list for a while. I enjoyed all the games and puzzles, and the unfolding mystery. A little too much emphasis on the love triangle for me, but still a great read.

Book cover of All Better Now

charlie2

From Charlie's 3 favorite reads in 2025.

Unknown Author Why Charlie loves this book

It draws inspiration from real-life events (the pandemic) and makes you think about them in a new and different way. There are some really interesting questions around forced happiness and whether that's a good thing, and whether it's morally right to force something on other people if it will change the world for the better, with different characters having different perspectives on it.

The plot works really well, with all the different threads gradually converging and building to the explosive climax. You get to understand all the characters' viewpoints even where they are in direct opposition to each other.

I am a huge fan of Neal Shusterman's writing style and this book doesn't disappoint.

Book cover of Dragonfall

clare1

From Clare's 3 favorite reads in 2025.

Unknown Author Why Clare loves this book

L.R. Lam has been a favourite author of mine for a while now. They offer such a refreshing take on life, free from the default heteronormative assumptions that are built in to so many books. Arcady's world is one without gender essentialism and all the more fascinating for it. But I'm not recommending this book on the strength of that alone, worthwhile as it is. There are also dragons, heists, romance and all sorts of other classic elements that will make this book appeal to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy plot. Come for the dragons, stay for the broadening of your worldview.

Unknown Author Why Clare loves this book

I think my favourite books this year have been those that offered new perspectives on the world, and this one is no different. The main character discovers her Indigenous heritage and we get to discover it alongside her. There are some hard-hitting insights into the foster care system and how shockingly it has treated Indigenous children in particular, alongside a truly emotional journey for Lucy as she comes to terms with her past. It's not always an easy read, but certainly worthwhile.
