Edwards is one of my favourite authors, so I knew I was in for a treat when I downloaded this audiobook. The story follows Ethan and his family, as well as Fiona, who moves in next door. When Fiona starts spending time with 12-year-old Rose, we soon realise that Fiona is extremely evil. This book explores parental child relationships, and what it means to be a psychopath. Although there aren’t many twists as such, there is so much great character development and a constant edge of nerviness pervades the story. It was impossible not to race through it and is one of my top reads of the year.

The novel is set in a dystopian future which, with the developments in AI, feels within touching distance which adds to horror of what unfolds. None of the characters are particularly likable but they ae all interesting and I was gripped by their unfolding stories in the interspersed chapters. It is a clever interwoven story with many narrative threads, twists and dark outcomes.

Miranda Rijks Why Miranda loves this book

From the very first page, Someone Like You had me hooked.

This is one of those books you pick up “just to start” and before you know it, hours have disappeared because you simply can’t put it down. It’s full of interesting characters and plot twists and left me feeling on edge, with my heart racing as I turned those pages faster and faster.

I loved the setting with its super creepy vibes, which only increased exponentially when more and more scary things started happening. I really warmed to Carey and her son and was rooting for them throughout. The explanations at the end made complete sense and tied things up perfectly.

I thought this was an excellent debut novel and I look forward to reading more by Elena Frost.

I really enjoyed this engaging plot and the characters have interesting dynamics.

It’s definitely a character-driven story and the dual narration from Izzy and Tristan worked beautifully for me, giving each of them a distinct voice and adding depth as their backstories unfolded.

I especially liked how their perspectives contrasted and played off one another.

Daniel always writes entertaining books that compel me to turn the pages quickly.

I love a good creepy neighbour story and this one fits the bill – especially when the family moves into a new house and bizarre things start to happen.

This is such a fun, twisty read and although I guessed a few of the twists, I was happy to go along for the rollercoaster ride.

I was so intrigued by the premise of this book: what would you do if the letters in your advice column started to mirror your own life a little too closely?

I loved the originality of this story but what really stood out were the subplots. This is one of those slow-burn reads where I was happy to be along for the ride, turning the pages to find out where this book was going and how it would end.

There’s nothing better than a thriller that keeps me guessing!

Miranda's book list on twisty psychological thrillers about creepy neighbours

Miranda Rijks Why Miranda loves this book

I love a book where the idyllic life people see from the outside is NOT accurate.

This story followed one family as their life spiraled out of control and I was enthralled with the shifting perspectives and the way the story peeled back the layers of this seemingly perfect family. It’s dramatic, messy, and full of tension.

While not all of the twists surprised me, I still found it a gripping, entertaining read. I certainly wouldn’t want to be living next to these neighbours!
