Why read it?
2 authors picked The Family Experiment as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?
The novel is set in a dystopian future which, with the developments in AI, feels within touching distance which adds to horror of what unfolds. None of the characters are particularly likable but they ae all interesting and I was gripped by their unfolding stories in the interspersed chapters. It is a clever interwoven story with many narrative threads, twists and dark outcomes.
This is such an original plot taking us into the near future, into a terrifyingly real world. My heart didn't stop thumping as I raced through it, wondering what horrors were going to befall the characters involved in the dystopian reality show. It was completely chilling and gives us an insight into how artificial intelligence could permeate every aspects of our lives, particularly in child-rearing. I couldn't stop thinking about this book once I'd finished it. Eye-opening, twisted in the extreme and compulsive reading.
