From the very first page, Someone Like You had me hooked.
This is one of those books you pick up “just to start” and before you know it, hours have disappeared because you simply can’t put it down. It’s full of interesting characters and plot twists and left me feeling on edge, with my heart racing as I turned those pages faster and faster.
I loved the setting with its super creepy vibes, which only increased exponentially when more and more scary things started happening. I really warmed to Carey and her son and was rooting for them throughout. The explanations at the end made complete sense and tied things up perfectly.
I thought this was an excellent debut novel and I look forward to reading more by Elena Frost.

I really enjoyed this engaging plot and the characters have interesting dynamics.
It’s definitely a character-driven story and the dual narration from Izzy and Tristan worked beautifully for me, giving each of them a distinct voice and adding depth as their backstories unfolded.
I especially liked how their perspectives contrasted and played off one another.

I loved the originality of this story but what really stood out were the subplots. This is one of those slow-burn reads where I was happy to be along for the ride, turning the pages to find out where this book was going and how it would end.

I love a book where the idyllic life people see from the outside is NOT accurate.
This story followed one family as their life spiraled out of control and I was enthralled with the shifting perspectives and the way the story peeled back the layers of this seemingly perfect family. It’s dramatic, messy, and full of tension.
While not all of the twists surprised me, I still found it a gripping, entertaining read. I certainly wouldn’t want to be living next to these neighbours!

And all the protagonists in the novels I have chosen are women, because women my age have spent enough time reading about men who have adventures.
What I love about historical novels is their ability to transport me into a past that was beyond my imaginings before I read the book.
The harrowing opening scene of this novel is something I could not imagine. But the main character of the novel, a black woman living in the Jim Crow South, has no such luxury. She knows full well the perils of being a black woman in the South. She must fight against deadly sexism and racism to try to claim a life for herself and solve a mystery with ties to a true historical crime.
Wanda Morris writes in a style reminiscent of John Grisham (if he had the life experience of a black woman). Plan to read this over the weekend because once you start, you won’t be able to put it down.

As a trained therapist, educator, and coach for expectant and new parents, I understand on a deep level the importance of creating a strong foundation in building a family. I also was personally humbled at how difficult the transition to parenthood was for me and the challenges it presented in my relationship with my husband. I appreciate Taylor’s honesty and her inclusion of stories from couples as examples. Reading this book feels like having a conversation with a good friend, who focuses first on your strengths, but who isn’t afraid to help you learn some new and helpful ways of interacting.
