I have always had a greater interest in supernatural horror compared to the other subgenres of horror. Another way to describe it is fantasy horror. However, sometimes the fantasy can take away from the overall story. I find the best stories with supernatural elements also have a lot of real-life horror to balance with the fantasy. Magic realism is also a trope of Post-Modern Culture and I find myself drawn to stories with post-modern elements versus those that don’t. I was moved by the moments of communion, camaraderie and even comedy the narrator shares with her fellow patients. Having said that, Ward 3 is a terrible place. The “treatments” are also punishments. The narrator confronts the ward’s alienation with clear, unsentimental detachment. I was absorbed by her struggle to retain an element of dignity in the face of the hospital’s fatally indifferent bureaucracy.

Where do I begin with this book? It is literally a tear-jerker of a romance. Anna and Bennett were never supposed to meet, but they did, and they quickly fell for each other. But things are complicated for these two. They are playing with fate and they just don’t care.
Bennett can time travel but he can also take an event in time and alter it. And as we’ve learned in many time traveling novels, that can change things in the future forever and cause a ripple effect.
The couple is just so sweet and innocent that you fall in love with them and want them so badly to make it work. I would highly recommend this series to anyone. I promise you’ll just love the sincerity and romance.

What I love about Woodley’s books is that you completely forget you're reading a book at all. Her writing is like listening to one of your closest friends tell you a story, and I mean that in the best way possible. The Next Worst Thing is no exception.
I found myself making up all kinds of excuses to avoid housework, errands, and other chores, so I could spend more time with this super sweet small-town romance. And yes, it’s also a rom com, so you might get some concerned looks from family members as you actually laugh out loud.
I didn’t ask to organize this wedding. And I certainly didn’t ask for the world’s worst best man as an assistant.
