Will I love A New Earth?

Eckart Tolle is well known for offering inspirational and simple ways of helping people. This is perhaps his most enlightening book and defines the ego's games better than anyone.

One of his main messages is that emotional issues like anxiety and depression are not our natural states and are reflective of too much identification with the ego. And letting go of our ego is needed for a new consciousness.

What we value is that his writing is powerful and really drives home his points.

I believe this book played a huge role in my spiritual awakening and healing journey. One of the greatest lessons was to observe my thoughts but not to be controlled by them—particularly those that lean toward negative. Reading this book was a huge step in changing my mindset and releasing emotions that were not my own. Understanding the real reason I felt so much anxiety in crowded settings was pivotal to me setting boundaries, claiming my peace, and living in my purpose. Highly recommend.

While I adore Eckart Tolle’s playfully impish and relaxed personality, I most appreciate his unflinching clarity about why we suffer and what liberation looks like. He invites me to realize that my mind’s inner dialogue—that perpetually comments, critiques, judges, compares, or tries to figure it all out—is not who I am, essentially. Who am I, then? The witnessing awareness which can simply observe that mental chatter, without identifying with it.

OK, so this guy’s work appears on everybody’s spiritual book list. Well, there’s a reason.

In my case, I was encouraged by a therapist to read a page of this book. After reading the page, I turned back to the book’s first page and read the breezy book in a sitting. That works for me, a spiritual book that can be read straight through with ease.

I just finished listening to the book, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. In the book, it teaches us to live in the now. How often are you living with intent? Often, based upon life stressors, we live by the seat of our pants, everyone becoming amateur firefighters, dealing with whatever emergency is critical to extinguish in the moment.

Living with a life full of gratitude helps to calm the nerves and build a plan for each day. By having an attitude of gratitude, we can have the life of our dreams.

Many books have contributed to what I’ve experienced as a series of “micro-awakenings” throughout my life, but none as powerfully as this one.

I generally do not like audiobooks. I like to hold books in my hands, dictate my own pacing, decide for myself when to slow down and savor an insight or passage. This book is the exception to all of that. Hearing it read in Eckhart’s voice, according to his pacing and pausing, casts a spell that can only be described as a transfer of energy, from him to you.

I love this book because the concepts are deep, and truthful to the core.

Yet, even though a large portion of the book points out centuries of darkness caused by humanity’s ego, Chapter 10 is a revelation of where we are headed and how we become enlightened.

Awakening to your life’s purpose, which is to become conscious and aware that we are all spiritual beings having a human experience, will bring about our ascension.

After being transformed by The Power of Now at a time when my whole world came unglued, I was delighted to go further into Eckhart’s work with this book. It’s done wonders to help me recognize and release ego when it shows up. I thought I’d “done” my ego work but realized how much my ego still controls my life. A New Earth is one of Tolle’s follow-up books to his immensely popular The Power of Now. Although The Power of Now may be more accessible for some readers, A New Earth goes into greater depths into some of Tolle’s core teachings, especially his thoughts on how the ego makes us suffer and distorts our understanding of reality.

Eckart Tolle is one of my heroes. There is no ego in his writing. It is pure wisdom with no agenda. I first read his books in my twenties and got a lot out of understanding the concept of the ‘pain body’ which, if left unchallenged, can wreak havoc on our lives.
