100 Books Like The Reprieve

This book is from the Asterix series and in general when you read Goscinny's books, you will not regret it, as it will inspire you with many ideas.

He was able to create humor from humans, animals, inanimate objects, and all elements of the story.

As for this book, I chose it because of the events taking place in Egypt, also because of the coherent plot, fast-flowing events, sense of humor, and new ideas. As usual in this type of book, there are some historical facts, but the general structure of the story is fictional.

The historical facts here are Queen Cleopatra VII, Julius Caesar, and the relationship between them, while the rest of the events are fictional and comic.

This book, from Black and Mortimer series, is characterized by wide imagination and attention to details, it may be flawed by some verbosity in the narration, but this was appropriate for that period.

Perhaps the modern generation gets bored of the abundance of descriptions, but if you begin reading this story you will not leave it before the final scene. The events take place in Egypt in the forties of the 20th century, and as an Egyptian I realize how faithful Jacobs was in conveying the image of Cairo in the forties with the utmost honesty and accuracy.

The historical background here is the fact that there was a historian named Manethon, and that Pharaoh Akhenaton existed, and his tomb had not been found yet.

This comic book is one of the best-selling books in France, and it has won several awards.

Here we will find more historical facts than fiction. The book tells about the life of Joseph Joanovici, a Jew of Romanian origin who immigrated to France, became one of the wealthy, and experienced one of the darkest periods.

French history, which is the Nazi invasion of France, and in order to survive the horrors of this period, he had to deal with everyone, friends and enemies, until people were confused in judging him, was he loyal to his people or was he a traitor.

What I liked about this book is the wonderful scenario and the cinematic style, this series consists of five parts that you will never forget after you finish reading it.

This comic book is one of Hergé's masterpieces, and in the three previous books Hergé was still experimenting.

In the book (Tintin in the Land of the Soviets) the graphics were weak and the scenario were naive, and the book (Tintin in the Congo) was not successful, and the book (Cigars of the Pharoah) made a great development, but the scenario did not reach the degree of maturity.

But in this book, Hergé reached the mixture that he would become famous for later. The clever combination of adventure and political events of that period, in a distinctive style, and drawings that are imprinted in memory.

It is one of the classic books that you will definitely not regret reading.

I had never read fiction like this before, a novel written contemporaneously yet showing such a depth of knowledge of the world around by a novelist who saw beauty beyond the chaos that had engulfed her world.

This was my go-to book when I researched the occupation. The photos and personal quotes brought it to life, and it is one of those non-fiction books that the fiction lover can appreciate. It reads seamlessly.

A riveting historical novel that I would read again!

Also for historical context, this is a more traditionally constructed history—though also a masterful synthesis of sources—and among those that view the refugee crisis as having a role in France's defeat. Clear, concise and comprehensive; if you read one book about the fall of France, read this.

Have you ever read a book that grabbed you with a character challenged by circumstances you’d never considered? Imagine being blind and trying to survive WWII! I was intrigued by this essentially two-person novel set during World War II, which had a ‘cast’ of millions.

Again, the characters! Marie-Laure LaBlanc is a young blind French woman hiding in her great-uncle’s house in Saint-Malo after the Nazis invade Paris. I found Doerr’s lyrical sensory descriptions of Marie-Laure’s efforts to make her way around town as she’s pulled into the French resistance thrilling. I loved the depth of characterization when I met the second main character, Werner Pfennig, a radio repair savant, and his journey from a Nazi soldier tracking down illicit resistance radio operators to a young man repulsed by the Nazi brutalization of civilians.
