I discovered Sheila Roberts' Life in Icicle Falls series last spring, courtesy of my local library. I adore the whole series--seriously, if you like small town romances, you'll want to move there! This story is so much fun because it's told from the point of view of some of the gentlemen residing in Icicle Falls, rather than the ladies. See, these fellows are having girlfriend/wife troubles, so they decide to read up on romance novels to discover what women really want from a relationship. It's so much fubn, with a really cute plot twist.
When an unauthorized oil rig appears offshore of Ecuador, a military team is sent to investigate. The deep-water platform has no markings, no drilling rig, and no workers. But it’s surrounded by a curious bank of fog, and when their helicopter closes in, they’re swallowed without a trace.
I'm a romance writer, and what romance writer wouldn't jump at the chance to meet her characters in real life? Yeah...about that... Gotta love this latest tale of Alex and Blake's latest visit to the real world. Check out the whole series, begining with Rewrites of the Heart.
JJ Spritely, history professor and romance author, writes love stories, but her own happily ever after seems out of reach. She’s frustrated her most recent book is sitting in a warehouse instead of in the hands of her readers. And her relationship with her boyfriend has stalled. What else could possibly go wrong? How about a return visit from Alex and Blake, the fictional characters from her yet-to-be-released book? They’ve jumped out of the pages of their book into JJ’s world before. They mean well, but they cause chaos wherever they go.Kennedy King Cooper wants to propose to JJ, but his…
This Christian historical romance caught my eye and my heart. What a story of struggle, faith, and (self-)determination! Liora's faith in her purpose in embattled Jurasalem is compelling, and the slow-burn romance with the Butcher of Babylon creates an amazing story.
Pawned to the besieging Butcher of Babylon, one Hebrew noblewoman determines to shine with Yahweh’s light while seeking to be of use to the innocents of doomed Jerusalem. In besieged Jerusalem, a Judean noblewoman is thrust into the perilous role of courier. Sent to Babylon's commanding general, she soon discovers she is more than a messenger—she's a pawn to a wicked king and a servant to a mighty God. Most surprising yet is the curious mind of Babylon’s bloodiest general—could Judah’s Yahweh truly be the God Most High?Faced with the impossible, Liora must be bold, speak Truth, and do so without…

Blitz, aka Dragon, and his kidnapped princess, between mishaps and misdeeds, travel one great adventure after another into friendship, personal growth, and world war. All in a day's work for a clutz of a good-hearted dragon. It's funny and punny.

I'm a sucker for a time travel book and Jodi Taylor raises the bar so high she makes me grin. this whole series has given me so much pleasure plus there's so much fascinating history and insight into history that I would never have studied. but with Jodi Taylor at the helm I'm suddenly a history student. I'm deep into the time Police stories which I'm loving as well. There's something about misfit heroes and heroines that grab me plus lots of laugh out loud moments in these books and some tears.
Time Travel meets History in this explosive bestselling adventure series.

A slow, meticulous, ordered and incredibly enjoyable read. I loved all the characters, including the Metropol hotel itself. Count Alexander Rostov, destined to spend the rest of his life in the hotel, handles his situation with grace, style and some fun. The book is cleverly written with wit and detailed description. There is a hilariously perfect description of a dog and cat encounter, and an episode of juggling oranges and knives that had me chuckling, to name a few. The Count's relationship with the hotel staff, patrons, and long-term residents is well depicted. There are many heartwarming moments. I also loved how Russia's history is woven into the story.
The mega-bestseller with more than 2 million readers, soon to be a major television series
From the #1 New York Times-bestselling author of The Lincoln Highway and Rules of Civility, a beautifully transporting novel about a man who is ordered to spend the rest of his life inside a luxury hotel
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and…

Now twenty years later, Syd’s favorite customer, Morley, is killed in a horrific accident outside the pub where Syd works. Moments before Morley dies, he gives Syd an extraordinary gift: the power…
This book was so poignant and melancholy in places. Beautiful. Sad. Heavy. And unexpectedly funny. It's nothing whatsoever like the TV show, if you've seen that trainwreck. It is a eulogy and a rebirth. And so well written.
The body you are wearing used to be mine.' So begins the letter Myfanwy Thomas is holding when she awakes in a London park surrounded by bodies all wearing latex gloves. With no recollection of who she is, Myfanwy must follow the instructions her former self left behind to discover her identity and track down the agents who want to destroy her. Special collector's film tie-in hardback of the best-selling classic, featuring the complete story with a sumptuous cover design inspired by THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY and brand new reproductions of all the drawings and maps by J.R.R. Tolkien.

I have a Master’s degree in Philosophy and for a (very) brief time was a stand-up comic (now I'm more of a sprawled-on-the-couch comic). Despite these attributes, I have received four Ontario Arts Council grants. This Will Not Look Good on My Resume was shortlisted for the Rubery Book Award, and excerpts from my several other books have appeared in The Cynic Online Magazine and 222 More Comedy Monologues, and on Erma Bombeck’s humor website.
I found out after I'd read and thoroughly enjoyed this novel that it's classified as YA. Pity. It made this adult laugh and laugh often. Alice is a refreshing change to … normal. Fortunately, there are two more books in the series.
I was so disappointed that the novel did not win the Leacock (technically, the Stephen Leacock Award for Humour). It definitely should have. But then … written by a woman … blah blah when will men get over themselves?)
The hilarious diary of Alice and her attempts to survive the embarrassments that are her parents, the small-minded nature of her hometown, and her own struggle to fit in. Highly observant, satirical and wise.
Fifteen years old and nursing a "serious case of outcastitis," Alice MacLeod is having a hard time finding anything much to like in small town Smithers, British Columbia. Her mum's a folk-festival hippie chick with a hair-trigger temper, her dad's a mild and reasonable sort of loser who hides out in the basement trying to write soft-core romance novels, and her last school counsellor threw…
Most of my mysteries fall somewhere on a humor continuum from laugh-out-loud to edgy. Because of the tone and lack of graphic sex or violence, they are often labeled as “cozies.” But all humorous mysteries are not cozies. To explain the different types of humor, I developed a matrix of five categories—kooky, comic, amusing, edgy, and dark. I’ve done numerous guest posts on my matrix, identifying authors from each category and discussing why readers are drawn to different types of humor based on brain dominance profiles and personality types. I also refer to my matrix and the nature of branding when discussing the function of humor in mysteries.
The opening scene in this first in the series is one of the funniest I’ve ever read. I also like the character of “Izzy” Spellman, a twelve-year-old with attitude issues and a need to prove herself.
Although their dysfunctional family would drive me crazy if I were a part of it, I find the Spellman Investigations the perfect vehicle for occasionally dark humor and twisted plots.
From the award-winning author of The Passenger comes the first novel in the hilarious Spellman Files mystery series featuring Isabel “Izzy” Spellman (part Nancy Drew, part Dirty Harry) and her highly functioning yet supremely dysfunctional family of private investigators.
Meet Isabel “Izzy” Spellman, private investigator. This twenty-eight-year-old may have a checkered past littered with romantic mistakes, excessive drinking, and creative vandalism; she may be addicted to Get Smart reruns and prefer entering homes through windows rather than doors—but the upshot is she’s good at her job as a licensed private investigator with her family’s firm, Spellman Investigations. Invading people’s privacy…
