100 Books Like From Lukov with Love

This enemies-to-lovers story about a romance writer and a literary fiction writer who strike a bet to write their next book in each other’s genre blew me away with its hilarious dialogue and realistic emotional stakes.

January struggles to write another Happily Ever After upon learning her recently deceased father had a secret life with another woman. She goes to deal with his beach house, only to find that her college writing rival is her neighbor for the summer.

I adored this small-town romance about a former Michelin star chef looking for a second chance and the local sweetheart who can’t help but rescue hurt and neglected animals and is determined to beat her ex-boyfriend in this year’s pairs canoe race.

The staple silliness and absurdity of a small-town rom-com lift the emotional heaviness of both principal characters’ personal circumstances. Fisher is grieving the loss of his sister and his career while also suddenly responsible for his teenage niece, and her three brothers raised Sage after their parents died young.

Their romantic connection is mature and emotional but also playful and sweet. DeWitt’s expert use of comedy to cut against emotion is especially lovely in this book. I laughed and cried, often at the same time.

City girl Calla reunites with the Alaskan bush pilot father she’s never really known following his cancer diagnosis. I love this classic fish-out-of-water story, set in rural Alaska, where Calla falls for the rugged, remote landscape and a gruff, bearded yeti “sky cowboy” named Jonah who flies with her dad.

This book had me kicking my feet, laughing, and then fully sobbing. While it is one of my favorite enemies-to-lovers romances, with incredible banter and sexual tension, the realistic last-chance repair of Calla’s relationship with her father is just as compelling.

The two storylines together create the perfect blend of emotional depth, sizzling chemistry, and significant character growth. This is a deeply cathartic, feel-good romance.

Noelle is grieving the recent loss of her grandmother and finds herself recreating a honeymoon trip her grandmother once planned with a former love, Paul. It’s the trip of a lifetime… except along for the ride is Paul’s grandson, Theo, who happens to be Noelle’s former high school rival.

Over the course of the trip, Noelle achieves real emotional healing, both in working through her grief and in finding herself again. She also comes to see that the guy she thought was always competing with her just might have been driving her to be better and vice versa.

Noelle and Theo’s romance is so tender and sexy, with snappy dialogue, intense chemistry, and heart-rending emotional moments. I laughed and cried and loved every page.

This book sparked my love for Carian Cole's books, and I've one clicked on her books ever since.

This age-gap romance between Toren and Kenzi happened organically, and I loved watching their platonic love morph into romantic love. Tor’s pet name for Kenzi was Angel, which was fitting for the kind-hearted, strong heroine.

I think what most impacted me about the nickname was how it transformed throughout the book. At first, Angel was just a sweet endearment, but it matured as Kenzi did. Every time she worried about animals or showed concern for her dad, the nickname felt more and more fitting. 

This book broke my heart and stitched it back together. Abby Jimenez's writing style is magnetic, and her characters make me laugh and cry in equal amounts. Every time I need a pick-me-up, I pull out this book.

There are few perfect romantic comedies out there. Some have third-act breakups that don’t make sense. Some are riddled with miscommunication or surprise baby tropes that have a person feeling all the ick. This is not that book. Does it have miscommunication? Yes, in a reasonable, wonderful kind of way. Does it have a surprise baby? Yes! In a way that deepens the two main character’s connection.

The fact that this writer can take my two most disliked tropes and make them entertaining shows just how incredible this author is at her craft. Most importantly, it made me giggle my ass off, and if that is a requirement for you, then this… show more.

This is a fast, fun, star-studded read.

Hoffs is one of the founding members of The Bangles, and one can’t help but imagine that it is all true in one way or another. There’s a character who is an awful lot like Prince and...well, that makes the story particularly fun for me. 

I love how Joanna Wylde delves into biker club culture, making it appealing and yet not dialing down the violence. Horse, the hero, is a classic hero: tough, and yet he has a sweet side. Best of all, we have a great heroine!

I love that Marie is brave and independent. She has the sense to leave her awful ex and the guts to go it alone, and then she steps up to rescue her brother, who makes some bad choices. This is a fun read and a fast-paced one. 

This book is on many folks’ Best of 2023 list, and for good reason. It’s romantic, funny, and irreverent. And Maehrer birthed it from a TikTok series of short videos. There’s nothing not to like here. 

Evie Sage needs a job badly. Her family needs the money to eat, so it doesn’t matter what employment she finds, just as long as they pay her. A chance run-in with the town’s most Evil Villain ends in a job offer, and she takes it. It doesn’t hurt that he’s attractive, even if he runs a nefarious crime empire. (Insert evil laugh here.)

While drooling over her boss isn’t required, it’s sure fun. However, it all turns very serious when someone turns against the Villain and puts her job in jeopardy. Besides, she’s not certain who the real bad guys are.

Sometimes a woman can get herself into a situation that she doesn’t see coming and is nervous about telling anyone.

In this book, the protagonist, Lily, is one of those women. I’m drawn to stories where you go on a journey with the main character as she finds her voice and begins to stand up for herself and realizes she’s worth much better in life, than the way she’s being treated.

Many women feel shame around getting themselves into these kinds of situations, but we are all human, and it can happen subtly, so subtly that you don’t see it coming. Lily becomes a strong woman, and that strength is something I admire.
