I’ve long been fascinated by the human side of history. Not the dry recounting of battles, dates, and generals so often taught in school, but the reality behind all those statistics. I’m enthralled to learn what the individuals in history had in common with us and what was different for them. Nothing from the Revolutionary War to the Great Depression to World War II to the Middle Ages was as simple and as black-and-white and right-or-wrong as we’ve been led to believe. Each of these books has broadened my understanding of historical periods and brought me one step closer to those who lived through them.

I’m a non-binary, neurodivergent, queer speculative fiction writer who loves a good revolution story—whether that’s a quiet, personal revolution, or a big, explosive overthrowing of the 1%. It is really important for me that my female characters have agency – that they actively move the story forward, make decisions and step up. Those are the kind of stories I like to read too.
