Book description
Who are you? When you start to explore this question, you find out how elusive it really is. Are you a physical body? A collection of experiences and memories? A partner to relationships? Each time you consider aspects of yourself, you realize that there is much more to you than…
Why read it?
21 authors picked The Untethered Soul as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?
This is the book I've re-read the most. It’s also the book I’ve gifted the most. Why? Because amongst the hundreds of personal growth books I’ve read, none laid out for me a clearer path to lasting inner peace and transcendence.
Singer identifies the central problem of human existence: we don’t feel right on the inside, so we rearrange the outside world to feel better on the inside. That ain’t ever gonna work. Instead, Singer guides us along the path of spiritual growth towards what does work: unclenching our way to true liberation from our own thoughts and blockages.…
From Ali's list on reboot your life, get happier and flourish.
From this book, I have a new mantra, “let it go,” and I find myself going even deeper into the subject of consciousness through observing my thoughts and emotions. I have become more alert to when my ego speaks and can identify the parts that are not me. My practice is to thank my ego for its input, that I have everything under control, and to just relax and let me go about my life.
I’ve learned that I can follow the flow of life through creating intentions and letting the Universe take care of form, bringing me the highest…
From Patti's list on living authentically and trusting inner wisdom.
I love this book because it blows my mind open to the difference between who I thought I was and who I really am. It’s a clear, concise, and hilarious roadmap to freedom from your self. Yes, I mean your self, not “yourself.”
Michael shows clearly and simply that, no, you are not that voice in your head that never stops telling you who you are and what to do. You are really the clean, clear awareness that lies behind your mind.
After I read this book, I knew what Buddha, Jesus, and all the saints and sages of the…

This book hooked me from the start with the title. It elevated my understanding of consciousness and helped me uncover and let go of any thoughts or habits that did not benefit me.
Singer highlights what the inward journey can look like at any point in time and how to find clarity through meditation and mindfulness techniques. I specifically loved his emphasis on the illusion of the ego and how misleading it can be when we attach it to our identity.
From Finnian's list on living life with intentionality.
This book blew me away when I read it. It completely shifted the way I see things and my understanding of “who” is doing the seeing.
I came to this book with some experience of meditation, but it deepened my understanding of the nature of consciousness, the ways that we humans create suffering for ourselves, and illuminated a path toward greater freedom. Essentially, it offers a profound shift from experiencing ourselves as the voice in our heads that follows us around all day long to a more expansive sense of a witnessing consciousness that we are.

From Beth's list on helping you change the way you see the world for well-being and transformation.
Singer made distinct all the imperceptible knowings I’ve felt throughout my existence about the power of the mind, beliefs, and all the habits we have that hold us back. He made the invisible visible and with that came more choices and possibilities. I felt invigorated, at peace and also empowered while I read this book. I honestly couldn’t put it down!
I reveled in not just the content but the style with which he presents truths about our existence. (And it was just so enjoyable to read!) The last part about death changed me in a profound way and offered…
If you love Michael A. Singer...
Singer takes readers on a journey of self-discovery, exploring the nature of the mind and offering profound insights into achieving inner peace and freedom.
Using examples, Singer communicates complex spiritual concepts in a clear, practical, and relatable manner. Readers learn to observe their thoughts without entangling in them, ultimately leading to a sense of liberation from inner struggles.
I have been teaching the witnessing state for many years, but this book helped me clean up some of the thoughts I had going on that I didn’t need. It encouraged me to walk my walk and depend my work on myself.…
Unlike a lot of self-help and/or spiritual books that ask us to believe and have faith in various “concepts”, Singer’s book offers practical and scientifically sound methods for personal growth and spiritual transformation.
I was able to apply his methodology of strengthening Witness Consciousness immediately. The book is a life-changing experience that sticks with you long after its pages are shelved. That stated, it is the type of book to be read and re-read as doing so wears down old suboptimal patterns of behavior and, “untethers the soul.”
This book is a beautiful classic that you probably already own. Singer is wise.
Each paragraph is rich as chocolate cake, imparting an understanding of our energetic and emotional worlds and especially how to heal our hearts and move through pain and into healing—all with a good dash of Buddhist thought.
From Summer's list on making you want to plunge joyfully forward in life.

This book answers many questions regarding the process of awakening and living as a True Nature.
It addresses everyday situations and questions that all of us ask ourselves or have to meet in our daily lives. Michael keeps it simple and creates a sense of easeful understanding of what our True Self is and how we can live more from being and less from doing.
He also gives numerous life examples, sometimes funny, and keeps it honest and practical. I found it to be a great reminder for myself on my own path of awakening.
I would recommend it to…
