Why read it?

5 authors picked Narwhal as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

I think this book is a genius. It’s a great example of a character-driven early reader graphic novel that brilliantly keeps it simple while fully exploring the friendship between a narwhal whale and a jellyfish.

The hilarious dialogue and simple but expressive illustrations make this one of my favorites, and its appeal to all kinds of readers is the reason this is a bestseller.

This is a fantastic book for kids for many reasons, but most of all, I love the positivity! Clanton beautifully captures the essence of friendship through the charming relationship between Narwhal and Jelly.

Someone said there is an element of Frog and Toad with these two characters, and I agree. Delightfully simple illustrations and relatable stories teach important lessons about acceptance, teamwork, and celebrating differences.

From Steve's list on graphic novels for young readers.

8 year old: “I like its jokes because its jokes are really funny. Well not just the jokes, but I like comics a lot, which is why I like it.”

6 year old: “You know what I like, same thing, for the same reason.”

A cute whimsical silly modern kids’ comic about a narwhal and a jellyfish, with random non sequiturs that delight my kids. Written in language easy enough to read for a kindergartner, but still engaging for a third grader. When I hear them giggling uncontrollably from the other room, I can guess what they are reading.

When the world’s most outgoing Narwhal meets the deadpan Jelly Fish a deep-sea best friendship is born. With their loopy dialogue, goofy logic, and slapstick physical comedy, all presented in comic book-style frames, Narwhal and Jelly are a classic comedy duo capable of cracking up humans of all sizes. This first book in the Narwhal and Jelly series features two wacky stories followed by breaks for funny facts about Narwhals and Jelly Fish and the official Narwhal song and winds up with an extra-clever story in which the wet besties create their own book within the book.

From Billy's list on best friends.
