Demi Moore - the definition of a survivor. What a wild life she's led.

I am a huge fan of memoirs and this one by Demi Moore was just astonishing. One word: transparent. She didn't try and sugar coat of gloss over, you got the unfiltered truth about her experiences in life and you were left with your own interpretation of it. I would listen to the audio book for hours at a time, completely captivated at the stories from her life. I remember my first published feature article about a street performer and asking a friend for his thoughts on my story. He replied. "Well, it's not Hemingway." Being a little miffed, I replied, "Well, I don't really like Hemingway." Okay, back to Inside Out. Demii Moore's book is not excellent prose. At times it's not even really good prose. But, it's honest in its emotions and forthight about her insecurities, heartbreaks, and just real in ways I didn't anticipate. When more than three women recommend a memoir, especially one that is by someone famous, I have to pick it up. Usually, I am not attracted to the lives of famous people, partly because I worked in Hollywood for so long. I saw they were just people like us, playing roles and doing their jobs. But Demi Moore’s long battle with body dysmorphia stemmed from a cruel relationship with her mother, where she was even sold for money. This is a more traditional biography by another member of the Brat Pack who has also successfully managed to stay in the public eye for decades. This one is eye-opening as I learned so much about Demi’s backstory that I hadn’t known previously: her struggles with addiction, being a victim of abuse…this book is stark and emotional but also inspiring. Despite everything holding her back, Moore was able to overcome so much pain to bring happiness to so many on the big screen.
