Will I love I Hear You?

When I read this book, the lightbulb went off. I have been in so many situations where I didn’t feel heard, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on why.

Sorenson explains that truly being connected happens only when we are validated. I never realized that almost every conversation we have is a bid for validation. We are asking others not just to hear us but also to “say something.”

There are so many books written about active listening and communications, but not many that focus on what the other person really needs: Validation.

As veterans re-integrate into the civilian workforce and lifestyle, the way they communicate is different from when they were serving in the military, and becoming mindful of how they communicate with others is important. This book will guide them through a key skill (validation) that will help them not only in their career, but also in their personal life. 

I listened to this book on Audible and then bought multiple print copies to share with others – it’s THAT good! It’s a short read that outlines how to properly validate people. I thought I was okay at this, but it turns out not so much. Practicing validation will help others feel heard, even when you disagree with them, and ends the need for people to argue their point endlessly or behave in other ways that take up your time. If you practice what Sorensen preaches, you will see amazing results in your work and home lives.
