Why read it?
5 authors picked Big Swiss as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?
Humor has always pulled me through the hard parts of life, and laughter is the test that tells me if I’ll be compatible with someone when we first meet. So to read a ridiculous character who’s coming in hot right on page one, charging through the story with absolutely no filter, epic foibles fully (and uncomfortably) detailed, and unable to stop making terrible decisions had me cackling out loud.
I was initially drawn to this book for the perfect cover, but I quickly fell in love with the writing and a story that captures that frustrating push and pull of…
From Kerry's list on messy women.
I was immediately taken by the characters' voices, the irreverent, laugh out loud funny tone, while also covering serious topics. It's funny, sexy, weird, and ridiculous in all the best of ways.
Hilarious, engaging, weird, and the most fun I had all year reading, Big Swiss quickly became the actual talk of my actual town as everyone who liked to read passed it along to their friend. There's nothing specific to say to recommend this book except for that it deserves to be experienced, and as a writer I will steadfastly refuse to go back and read it to mine all its tricks, because I enjoyed the experience of reading too much to sully it with an investigation of craft.

I love reading a book and knowing the other shoe is about to drop, and this book does it in a satisfying way. Greta lives in a house that is literally falling apart around her and transcribes sessions for a local sex therapist. There, she discovers the subject of her fascination: the cold, distant, and traumatized Big Swiss.
Despite the sometimes-heavy subject matter, the interplay between Greta and Big Swiss as they embark upon their affair is so much fun. This is the perfect train wreck in that it’s not a matter of IF, but WHEN Big Swiss discovers Greta’s…
From Laurie's list on watch a slow-motion train wreck.
Big Swiss came (as it were) as a recommendation from a friend and fellow writer. In her text she said, "it’s brilliant, it’s filthy". She was right.
The story is about a woman who transcribes therapy sessions, and who meets and hooks up with one of the women whose sessions she’d been writing up. It’s great fun, a bit weird and different – I’ve never read anything like it.
It’s another view to the relationships between queer women and it explores their sexuality with humour and tenderness.
