The best psychological thrills to keep you turning the pages

I loved the pacing of the book. It kept me turning pages. I wanted to know more about Lillian Ross. For a debut book, I was impressed with the characterization of Lillian. I wanted to know what made her tick.

The entire book was a study of the mind, why it does what it does, how it sometimes continues to make the same mistakes, and how untreated trauma keeps cycling over and over. 

Oh the tangled webs we weave, when first we attempt to deceive. The book was recommended by my granddaughter. I had no idea what to expect. I was dumbfounded at some of the things that happened and the excuses for them. How does a famous author get her life so twisted up? I was beginning to think I was glad I never knew people like this. When I realized I did know people this twisted for other reasons.

I dare you to put this one down. I am now looking forward to reading more by Colleen Hoover. Had it not been recommended to me, I’d have missed out on a great read. Because, in truth, we all know someone devious and diabolical. 

The book is a page-turner; you can’t put it down. I love it when a writer pulls me right into the pages like I am standing in the shadows or the fly on the wall. I’m right there wondering if I would make the same choices or if I would just pack it in and leave.

How, as a writer, do you finish the last book in someone else’s series when that someone is still alive? How do you find the notes because you are unable to ask the questions you need answers to? I personally would not want the job. Although I have been asked about ghostwriting. It’s not my thing. This book, on the other hand, was all that and so much more. I finished it in the wee hours of the morning. 

This book didn’t start out in the usual way. That in itself grabbed my attention. It’s a thriller, so I expect the first paragraph at least to pull me in. It didn’t grab me the way most do; it slowly sucked me in until I found myself not wanting to put it down.

The two main characters seemed to be at odds. One wanting to help and one refusing to speak. I don’t understand not trying to find answers that keep me silent. It must be the curiosity that kept me reading. Because the woman could speak. At least she could at one time. Either it was something traumatic, or it was just plain stubbornness. Or was I missing the entire point? Always an option. 

This book is a debut novel that could have been ripped from the headlines of any newspaper! I was as terrified as Grace through most of this book. I felt her personal terror for herself and her sister. I knew she was on her own with her parents in another country. When someone seems too perfect, there is a flaw somewhere. Please find it before you make any long term committments.

I saw myself in Grace. I could see myself making the same mistakes, overlooking things, because on the surface, everything seemed right. It’s all in the details. This was another book that quickly pulled me in. 

I absolutely loved this book. Sarah Morgan was nothing if not faithful. I don’t know if I could have been. But high-powered attorneys don’t think the way I do. I kept turning pages and more pages. I could not put it down.

I am an avid reader but, until recently, had not read a lot of psychological thrillers. I didn’t know what I was missing. Part of me likes crawling into someone’s fictitious mind; part of me thinks I should stay out and just watch (read) the action. It’s that curiosity thing that keeps me up at night when I know I should be sleeping.
