Since discovering the Enneagram a few years ago, I’ve been absolutely fascinated by the psychology behind personalities. Each one is unique, influenced by innumerable things from both nature and nurture. And the misunderstandings that come from different types of interaction have contributed significantly to challenges in my personal life. But they also make stories more interesting to read, especially when you get to see things from the perspective of multiple different characters. Nothing is juicier to me as a reader than watching characters initially misunderstand and dislike each other, but over time grow to understand and even respect each other as close friends and/or romantic interests as the story unfolds!
The characters are so distinct that the author barely uses action tags or dialogue tags to identify who’s talking—you just know based on their word choices and punctuation. Even when all six of them are having a conversation. It’s amazingly well done and makes for a more immersive reading experience.
This is about a heist, and it was super interesting to see the story from each POV, including the one who knew the whole plan and the others who only knew parts. The author shows the POV of the mastermind behind the plan without revealing the plan to the reader until it’s actually happening.
I’m also a sucker for mutual pining, and the suspenseful end of this book pertaining to two particular characters had me so relieved I’d already bought the sequel so I could find out what happened next immediately!

We learn that the clairvoyant family members of the FMC have predicted her whole life that one day, she will kill her true love. And it just so happens that a relative has come for a visit and immediately announces that this is the year the FMC will fall in love.
It’s so freaking good!
Of course watching that unfold from both the FMC and the MMC’s POVs kept me flipping pages fast, but I also enjoyed the other friendships, struggles, and romances happening in the other POVs. A solid multi-POV series I frequently recommend!

The transformation of the MMC in this book is one of my all-time epic favorites. This dude. He is a walking wall of stone with the tiniest tender side we barely ever get a glimpse of. And he brings more than enough “enemy” to the enemies-to-lovers aspect of this series. But his POV chapters were my favorite to read because when his heart of ice starts melting, he falls hard. And it is so satisfying to read!
The perspectives of the FMC and other characters in both the palaces and the rebel forces add depth, magic, scandal, mystery, and loads of excitement. There’s plenty going on besides the central romance, and the two aspects are well-balanced. This series is in the top three ish of those that I’ve reread the most.

She insults him with Shakespeare. This line from the blurb sold me on this futuristic steampunk fantasy because what does that even mean? But finding out was super fun, and I absolutely loved watching these enemies become lovers through the MMC and FMC’s perspectives.
Like the other books in this list, there are additional POVs besides the main love interests that add depth, humor, and emotion to the story, and the world contains an interesting mix of sci-fi and fantasy elements that work well together.
As with Six of Crows, I recommend having book two handy right off the bat because the cliffhanger ending to this book will leave you scrambling for what happens next!

This book is positively overflowing with witty banter. Hilarious witty banter between the love interests who won’t admit they’re madly in love and spectacular witty banter between the various sibling POVs we also get to read. My favorite character besides the FMC and MMC is Finn, a brother of one of the characters whose sense of humor is second to none. His undercover vigilante work, which his family misunderstood as laziness and lack of direction, made me respect and feel for him more, which balances out his apparent inability to take anything seriously well.
This book has the classic mutual pining I love so much and enjoy reading from both love interests’ perspectives, and the incredible sibling banter adds richness to the story I rarely find. This is my most recent read actually and I’m already running for the rest of the series right now!
