I have written and published fifteen books, ranging from Fantasy to Science Fiction to Children’s Rhyming stories. I write under several pen names, because (being Neurodivergent) I like to keep my voices straight, and the names help me do it. My love of Dragons came from a song and cemented itself via book and movie – Flight of Dragons, my all-time favourite movie, closely followed by Labyrinth. I have at least thirty stuffed dragons that I call my Flight… they’re the subject of a story series that I’m turning into an illustrated book called Author & Muse, a myriad of Dragon Statues, and a plethora of t-shirts.
Guards! Guards! is the first of the City Watch books from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. This book was the first book that I’d ever read to lampoon Dragons and Humans in such a brilliant way.
STP had already mentioned Dragons in The Colour of Magic, but I wanted dragons that had characters and were a proper character, not just a side one.
There are two types of dragons in this story – Swamp Dragons, a purse puppy-sized dragon that was more likely to explode from excitement like a spaniel with a new friend, than breathe fire and fly. The other type is your usual Fire breathing, massive wingspan, gold hoarding Noble Dragon.
However, this story is so much more than just the dragon. The story is about the effect of “dragons” on society be they animal or human….

When I was a teenager, I picked up and tried to read, Lord of The Rings three times. Each time it went back to the library unfinished. The Librarian, noticing this, suggested that I try The Hobbit instead before I tried LOTR again.
As usual, the Librarian was right (aren’t they always?) and once I’d devoured The Hobbit, LOTR was much, much easier to read.
My favourite character has always been Smaug, even before Benedict Cumberbatch was his voice… *sighs in Fangirl*… and it is because he is completely arrogant, cold, and heartless; unapologetically so. He is the Perfect Dragon Villain.

Puff was my first contact with Dragons. Being born in 1975, it was one of the songs that my dad learned to play on guitar and would play for my sister and me when we were small. So it was inevitable that when I started my collection of children’s books (What?
