You with the Sad Eyes

Stephanie Lincoln ❤️ loved this book because...

I really enjoyed Christina's (or as you will come to know her as Ki Ki) memoir. I appriciate her bravery in writing her story. I was touched by her truth. It was heart breaking to hear at times, but witnessing someone's story and truth is th emost important part of reading a memoir. I feel I was changed by this book, just as I am as a therapist every time someone shares their story with me. I am wishing Ki Ki to find healing.

'Lively and at times harrowing' New York Times

'Unvarnished' Rolling Stone

'Candor and intelligence thread throughout her memoir ... Applegate evokes the hijinks of fame - there are more celebrity cameos here than in a Josh Safdie film - as well as her journey through chronic illness' Time

'Blunt ... without a filter ... not a safe, prim thing. It's raw and angry, lyrical and funny, and more than a bit dangerous. [Christina Applegate] charts the personal and career ups and downs of a veteran Hollywood comic actor with a rawness rarely found in today's memoirs...' Washington Post

Stephanie Lincoln ❤️ loved this book because...

Just wow. This book should be standard reading in every high school. Again, what I love about memoirs is standing witness to their story. And for somone like Laverne, and the horriffic abuse she endured since a young age and her entire life, just heartbreaking. Any ignorant person reading this book would come away with the understanding that being trans is NOT A CHOICE. Who in the world would choose a life of persecution and abuse just to be who they feel they really are? No one. It was so hard to hear but we have to witness this and stand up and say this is not ok. No one deserves to live through these things and we justify it because they are "different" or "wrong". It just makes me sick. Laverne, THANK YOU for sharing your truth. The truth shall set us free.

The River's Daughter

By Bridget Crocker,

Book cover of The River's Daughter

Stephanie Lincoln ❤️ loved this book because...

Another beautiful memoir of someone bearing their truth. Thank you Bridgette for your bravery. Standing witness again to another woman, who was a girl and her parents not only failed to protect her but perperated some of the abuse and neglect. Her very special connection to the rivers was so beautifully written and I learned quite a bit about white water rafting along the way which was facinating. This book changed me. The ending was so beautiful and shows just how complicated human realatonships really are and how there is always possibility for reconsiliation.

Why should I read it?

1 author picked The River's Daughter as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

A vivid and propulsive memoir about finding courage and meaning in a life outdoors, by a world-class whitewater rafting guide.

After Bridget Crocker's parents' volatile divorce, she moved with her mother from Southern California to Wyoming. Her life was idyllic, growing up in a trailer park on the banks of the Snake River with a stepfather she loved, a new baby brother, and the river as her companion—until her mother suddenly took up a radical new lifestyle, becoming someone Bridget barely recognized. The one constant in her life—the place Bridget felt whole and fully herself—was the river. When she discovered…

What is my book about?

On August 8, 2020, 40-year-old Stephanie Lincoln seemingly had the perfect life. She just had the wedding of her dreams, owned a successful business, and was traveling the country in an RV with her husband, 3 cats, and 3 dogs. On that day, Stephanie officially became a missing person and the battle for her life ensued.

Steph tells the tale of her harrowing effort to survive. Told with great suspense and style, Stephanie interweaves stories of the experiences she feels prepared her for this very moment in her life. With her salty personality and sense of humor, Born to be Brave vividly captures the terrors and triumphs of a military veteran forging ahead against all odds on a journey that took her to the brink of despair, and ultimately healed her.

Steph’s journey, and the included perspectives from her friends and family, are an inspiring tale of persistence, resilience, and the power of belief. This book will make you consider the series of circumstances that can equip you to not only survive but thrive in a terrible life event. After reading this book, you will feel like you were too, Born to be Brave.
