Book cover of Esrahaddon

❤️ loved this book because...

I’ve been in love with this world and already liked the MC from previous installments but this particular story invested my interest on a new level. Not many authors can juggle multiple POV’s well without losing pace, but Mr. Sullivan does seamlessly. And he never fails to make even unlikeable characters interesting.

What is this book about?

A HERO TO SOME. A VILLAIN TO MANY. THE TRUTH FOREVER BURIED.

The man who became known as Esrahaddon is reported to have destroyed the world's greatest empire - but there are those who believe he saved it. Few individuals are as divisive, but all agree on three facts: He was exiled to the wilderness, hunted by a goblin priestess, and sentenced to death by a god - all before the age of eight. How he managed to survive and why people continued to fear his name a thousand years later has always been a mystery . . . until…

My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of The Ghosts of Nothing

❤️ loved this book because...

Ms. Walters resets the bar for young adult fantasy: mixing modern challenges and conflicts with the deepest old-world lore, where fairy tales and horror meet and intertwine. I love a good hero’s journey but it’s not common to find a story that truly honors the original Irish mythos concerning fairies—often feeling more paranormal than “fantasy”. The MC is the rare example of “not like other girls” done right… because she honestly isn’t (and she’s not caught up in some unhinged love triangle either). All she wants is to understand why so much weird has surrounded her family for 200 years. And the fairies definitely trigger that uncanny valley reaction (in both characters and readers), at least initially. It’s not often you find stories like these anymore— echoes Lewis Carol, L. Frank Baum, and Neil Gaiman.

"All right then, human," Jack said, a smirk playing on his lips. "We accept your terms. But you should know, we don't have to take what is already ours. She will seek us out when she's ready."

The town of Nothing is haunted...

...or so its citizens believe. Sixteen-year-old Nelly Morighan is skeptical of the stories, and for good reason. The locals blame her "cursed" family…

Book cover of The Unseen Realm

❤️ loved this book because...

This is nonfiction so not a “fun” read in the traditional sense. But as someone who pursued education in archaeology, it’s always been important to me to view ancient texts through the lens of their origin cultures. This includes the Bible. The late Dr. Heiser places in laser focus how Bronze Age and 2nd Temple Period Jews would have perceived reality, providing a different framework for unpacking Biblical texts than most modern laypeople (and even many Biblical scholars) are accustomed to. Paradigm-shifting, even.

What is this book about?

He planned to obliterate an entire city. He thought no one could stand in his way. But he hadn’t heard of Riyria.

When a master craftsman dwarf is fired and threatens retaliation, the rogues- for-hire enterprise known as Riyria is commissioned to stop him. Traveling to the paradise resort of Tur Del Fur, the two are granted a lavish allowance that, along with an easy task, promises to turn a job into a vacation. Everything would have been perfect except that the disgruntled worker’s last name is Berling, and the targets of his wrath are the legendary towers of Drumindor.

Welcome to the fifth installment of The Riyria Chronicles, from Michael J. Sullivan, the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. This is the eleventh book starring the cynical ex-assassin Royce Melborn and the idealistic ex-mercenary Hadrian Blackwater. While part of a much larger tale, this novel is written such that you can enjoy it even if you’ve not read any of the other books in the series. But for those who are fans of the pair, it’s been over six years since we last saw them, and we’re hoping you’ll be pleased to be reunited. Either way, we hope you enjoy this adventure!
