First chapters shoot you forward and are terrifying. I found myself exclaiming out loud. My goodness what great pace and storytelling. Such a possible future pulled close to the reader with full force and shocking impact. Made me worry a great deal. But that is what good fiction - or any writing should do? Make the reader reappraise their assumptions and current understandings.
