Hugh, the indomitable Mrs. Wimpole and the Professor, along with Madeline made me positive that the issue with the house would have been resolved differently. Josh took it better than I did! Even so, I totally recommend this book.

I like to kid on that I read the classics, and Fielding's book is a true modern classic. Bridget Jones is the uber-loser turned winner. I remember reading this and feeling that delicious shock of recognition: my terrible choices, my doomed self-improvement plans, the way one bad decision always blossomed into five.

What I still love is how Fielding catches the gap between who Bridget thinks she ought to be and first-rate hopeful hot mess.

I loved the uniqueness of this book, centred around the novelty of email in 1999. I love the idea of a nerdy guy whose job it is to read other folks' emails as he struggles with young adulthood approaching the dreaded Y2K. I loved how his POV is beautifully interspersed with cute epistolary exchanges.

I loved this book because it slams you in the gut, and I spent the entire time raging, crying, laughing, and loving Peter as he negotiates his first love. I loved the stellar writing, the character growth, the evocative music, and how it made me lunge for the next in the series.
