What a title for a book! I love it and the concept within. Learning to tie should be fun and what could be more fun than learning to tie your shoelaces and then getting up to do a jig. Plus a smiling fiddle player and happy dancers on each page are sure to bring a smile to your child’s face. Most importantly, this book was written by a doctor so parents can feel safe following his instructions.

This Little Golden Book was published 25 years ago. There have always been children struggling to tie their shoelaces. This one sends a good message about not giving up and practicing. It also reveals that you can’t always tell when someone is struggling with an issue just by looking at them. Stephen, the main character in the book struggles to learn. Children will be able to easily relate to him.

This is the only other picture book, besides my own, that I’ve been able to find for learning how to tie a necktie. It is a sweet story about a father figure coach who teaches a fatherless boy an art on manhood. I love books that teach values along with practical things so I had to place this story on my list.

Everyone who knows me knows I’m partial to rabbits and foxes and cute little woodland creatures in instructional children's picture books. This book doesn’t have any of that stuff in it. This book is the first in A.L. Jackson’s Bleeding Stars series and I can’t say enough about how much I love it. Two very broken people, Sebastian Stone and Shea Bentley, kept me on the ledge, knots tight in my stomach, waiting for their story to unfold. Jackson does an amazing job at building the depths of these characters and developing the consuming, can’t-live-without, love affair. I’m a true sucker for a story that is gut-wrenchingly beautiful. Both the characters have deep secrets, but Shea shows great courage and control over her life which I admire. Quick disclaimer: Jackson leaves a major cliffhanger so be ready to read book 2!

This book has a similar theme as my book and some of the others I've listed and deals with captivity and power.
I've read this book several times, once as a reader and then as a writer, analyzing how to transform a morally gray character or someone despicable into someone readers could care about. Turning hatred for an abductor into pity and wanting him to be with the heroine is no easy feat. I'm still impressed with her skill.

I was such a die-hard fan of Santa Claus as a kid, my mom had to debunk the myth two years in a row! Because, yeah, I heard you, but surely that was a bad attempt at humor last year. I won’t lie. It was traumatic. I wrote this book as a way to ease kids into the knowledge without anyone in the family feeling bad about it. I love this book because I believe it to be the first popular novelization of the life of Santa Claus. It was written in 1902 by the venerable Frank Baum.
