Red Night: Xavier’s Delight had more twists and turns than a mountain road, plus plenty of kinky sex. While I didn’t really like Xavier or his lover Marissa, their disturbing love dance left me wondering whether either one was a redeemable character.

What intrigued me the most was their codependent/narcissistic love affair—degrading, terrifying, and loving. I wasn’t sure whether to root for Marissa’s honesty to self and her eventual realization of Xavier’s motivation, or Xavier’s hot-and-cold nature. His impressively-described tool helped keep this reader attached to the story (just sayin’…).

The brilliance of this dark erotic piece: a sexy dichotomy between wanting what is safe and wanting what might destroy you. 

Not only is Maren Smith a great person, a quirky ‘little’ with a fondness for dinos, but also, she’s a tireless mentor and advocate for the authors in the BDSM Romance genre. I’m profoundly grateful she took me under her wings at the start of my writing career and to be part of her Red Hot Romance family today. 

While it is incredibly hard to pick just one book from her entire list, Sadie’s Little Christmas is my favorite because it shows a power exchange relationship in all its glory. Seeing Sadie blossom under Derek’s supervision is a treat. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

I love Pepper Winters because she goes into dark places where very few authors are willing to go. In this story, Tess Snow falls from a perfect life into perfect horror. It’s a story that looks into identity being based so much on how others see us, so when Tess is sold, her soul is adrift.

It’s a very dark read, and I had to skip a few scenes but I love the fantasy of a loving trauma bond transforming captor and captive. Not for everyone, so tread carefully.

This sweet with heat M/M romance invites readers into a loving age play story between two cowboys. Late night clicking on my e-reader app led to me discovering this book and it truly made my night. The author does a wonderful job of making these characters seem like these two gallant heroes next door. It is one of the books that inspired my book. 

Golden Angel’s books are freaking flaming! There is no doubt that this author knows how to write a book that will leave you scorched by the content and begging for more, and you’ll be eager to say yes, Daddy with no disruption by the time you’ve completed the first book!

This book both thrilled and shocked me with its twists and turns. Between the steamy scenes and the harrowing escape from a dangerous stalker, there was never a moment of boredom in this book.

The tentative but deep bond between the main characters made me want to root for them despite lies and betrayal.

This has to be at the top of my list. Dominant, powerful, and riding the line of right and wrong, he is an anti-hero worthy of the title alpha male. I honestly can’t tell you how many times I’ve read this book, but if my copy was a paperback and not the eBook version, I can assure you that its pages would be worn.

Not all may agree with Knight’s methods or his means, but with his dark past, it’s understandable. Sweet Anya is perfect for him, and their love story is as beautiful as it is unconventional.

I have found this book to be essential reading for my own life as well as in providing culturally-competent and effective counseling for clients in my private practice. 

Rowman and Littlefield has been a pioneer in publishing books with accurate and up-to-date information about consensual non-monogamy, LGBTQ issues, and kink and BDSM relationships. As a result, individuals who are seeking guidance and information about alternative sexualities and non-traditional relationships can easily utilize these books in their own lives.

Sierra Simone is the queen of diversity inclusion in romance. The Thornchapel series is my favorite by her. While I do recommend you start with Book 1, A Lesson in Thorns, Book 2 is where we get St. Sebastian Martinez’s voice and perspective. 

St. Sebastian is the first character I ever read in romance that embodied the otherness I felt growing up Mexican-American. 

This book is extremely taboo and not for the faint of heart. Come for a diverse cast with the dreamiest narrative voice (think an adult, BDSM, version of the secret garden), and stay for characters you will fall in love with. 

Gemma James hooked me at the title—Swallow Me Whole—and delivered on the naughty bits, dirty lies, and BDSM/dark vibe.

This friends-to-lovers trope made me want to high-five Sadie for having the guts to go for it with Ashton, and to kick the men in her life to the curb who won’t support her independence. 

What I really like is that the initial “arrangement” between Sadie and Ashton hits on the perfect note of hot and intriguing as hell. Clever quips between characters offer a comic relief that shows they’re into each other way beyond sex. 

There’s actually a great plot that unfolds where the reader will root for Ashton’s evolution into the man who allows Sadie the freedom to find who she’s meant to be: a confident, sexy woman.
