Tracey Lee Author Of The Aphorism Club

From my list on how women find their voices, despite obstacles and opposition.

Why am I passionate about this?

I come from a long line of women who are survivors. Survivors of transportation, imprisonment, assault, poverty, illness. In all of them was a clawing determination to endure. My ancestors were not shrinking violets; they bore their pain with dignity, used their voices and their hopes for a better future to boost the next generation of girls to a better life. I am the recipient of their courage. I believe this is how our sisterhood should roll. What we fight for today, what we give a voice to, should not have to be fought for again. It is this passion that drives my work, my reading, and my life.

Tracey Lee Why Tracey loves this book

This has been my favourite book since I read it as a child.

I love Jane’s courage in the face of adversity, both in her childhood and as a woman. It is her moral compass that guides her through her life, determining the rightness and wrongness of situations. She grows up in a world that believes she should be silent and accept the single path offered to her.

The message in the book emboldened me as I grew up and had to make decisions to challenge the expected norms. I can’t help but find joy in the cyclic nature of the love story here. In patience, in steadfastness, she finds love and does not lose herself in the process.

Ally Katz Author Of The Comanche Tour

From my list on Christian romance with strong friendships.

Why am I passionate about this?

A giving heart must also be a receiving heart was a phrase that always stuck with me. We all need a little help from our friends, after all. And it should be a two-way street. Seeing healthy, giving, and loving friendships always makes a good read that much better. Friendships will always play an important part in the books that I write. Below is my list of the best Christian romance books with strong friendships.

Ally's book list on Christian romance with strong friendships

Ally Katz Why Ally loves this book

The book is just a perfect blend of faith, drama, and romance. I love a good villain, and the character Lauren made a great one! The author skillfully raises the tension level through the family’s dysfunctional situation, to which I felt a connection. My parents divorced when I was 11, and some of Tucker's backstory resonated with me. Not only does the main character find support and friendship with the main female lead, but he has mentors and close friends to help him shoulder the responsibility that he takes on.

I've written three novels geared toward New Adult Christian readers before I discovered this author. I gravitate toward characters in that age range, and really enjoyed her series.

The author has a great YouTube channel that offers writing advice for Christian authors. After getting so much value from her channel, I was happy to buy her first novel Free. It’s such a clever book that had me quickly rooting for the main character. She overcomes so much. And I found the process of the ship’s crew and captain slowly warming up to her to be heartwarming. It’s a great story of a person without a family finally finding one on the high seas!

Liesl Shurtliff Author Of The Mona Lisa Key

From my list on children’s books adults will also love.

Why am I passionate about this?

C.S. Lewis famously said, “No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally—and often far more—worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond.” I love this sentiment, and it has had a profound influence on my writing.

Yes, I write books for children, and I hope they’ll love them, but I think adults should enjoy them, too. Some of the best books in the world are children’s books, and there’s no age limit for reading them. In fact, I believe the world would be a better place if more adults read children’s books regularly. Here are five of my favorites.

This is the BEST retelling of Cinderella and one of my all-time favorite books.

I’ve read it at least a dozen times…as an adult. It never gets old.

Despite her curse of obedience, Ella isn’t a passive damsel in distress (the most aggravating trope in all fairytales). She’s witty, bold, and determined. I love how light and fast-paced it is, yet still rich with fantastic world-building and fully developed characters.

If you’ve only seen the movie, you’re missing a treat. Like they say, the book is always better—in this case, it’s way better.
