As a life-long lover of fairy tales, I believe the reason these timeless stories resonate so deeply is because they speak to an unquenchable desire in the center of each of our souls: the hope for a grand romantic adventure that will change our lives from the inside out. As an author, I strive to create those kinds of soul-speaking stories, crafting characters my readers relate to as friends... and respect as heroes. When my readers adventure alongside these fictional friends, I hope they are encouraged to bravely face the real-life challenges of our modern world, while being emboldened toward acts of everyday and exceptional heroism.
An unexpected detour lands Alyssa, the daughter of a woodcutter, in the royal familyâs household. By accepting a position as companion to the king and queenâs rambunctious young daughters, she joins the familyâs circle of trust.
When Alyssa witnesses a traitorous plot to overtake the kingdom, sheâs forced to face her growing feelings for Max, the crown princeâwhich he reciprocates. But Max is duty-bound to marry for alliance instead of love.
With only mild fantasy elements, the story is driven by its romantic plot and the idea that true nobility resides in a personâs heart more than their bloodline. If youâre looking for a reimagined fairy tale thatâs lighter on the fantasy elements, Melanie Cellierâs sweet retelling ofThe Princess and the Pea is the perfect choice.
Danger and romance await a woodcutter's daughter in a royal palace.
One dark and stormy night, lost and alone, Alyssa finds herself knocking on the door of a castle. After a lifetime spent in the deep forest, Alyssa has no idea what to expect on the other side.
What she finds is two unruly young princesses and one very handsome prince. When Alyssa accepts the job of Princess Companion she knows her life will change. What she doesn't know is that the royal family is about to be swept up in unexpected danger and intrigue, and that she just mightâŚ

Wolves and Roses is a fun and snarky start to a big series in which humans exist in a modern world alongside shifters, witches, and fairies. Sounds fun, right?
Bryar Rose is expected to follow the Sleeping Beauty story template for her life. Unfortunately, something glitched in her personality, because no part of that story appeals to who she truly is, or what she wants out of life. When Bryar meets Knox, a powerful werewolf shifter in the midst of his own identity crisis, sparks fly.
If you enjoy strong, rebellious female leads and bad-boy heroes (yes, please!), this book has all those vibes, plus intrigue, witty banter (my fave), and action. Fans of alternate-history fantasy, paranormal romance, and modern-set fairy tale retellings should add this book to their TBR.
âMust read YA paranormal romance!â - USA Today
Seventeen-year-old Bryar Rose has a problem. Sheâs descended from one of the three magical racesâshifters, fairies, or witches. That makes her one of the Magicorum, and Magicorum always follow a fairy tale life template. In Bryarâs case, that template should be Sleeping Beauty.
Should being the key word.
Trouble is, Bryar is nowhere near the sleeping beauty life template. Not even close. She doesnât like birds or woodland creatures. She canât sing. And she certainly canât stand Prince Philpot, the so-called âHis Highness of Hedge Fundsâ that her aunties want her toâŚ
As a reader, I have always been partial to fantasyâthe sweeping worlds, the heroics, the adventures, and the characters. I grew up immersed in fantasy, and as I began my writing journey, I remained immersed in it. I love being transported to another world and escaping the mundane of life, exchanging it, if only briefly, for a life of excitement and magic. I am a fantasy romance writer at heart, and my writing personifies my love affair with both fantasy and romance. To me, romance is just as tantalizing as world-building. My books consist of powerful romances that weave perfectly with the magical world in which they bloom.
I donât typically read fairytale-inspired books, but this one was so beautifully crafted that I couldnât put it down. The fantasy world-building is reminiscent of a Tim Burton film with vivid imagery and characters.
Alyssa is the great-great-great granddaughter of Alice. She worries her fate will leave her in an institution like others in her family until she finds herself in Wonderland.
This series has two romancesâone between Alyssa and Jeb, and one between Alyssa and Morpheus. Jeb is her love in the human world, but Morpheus offers his own temptation. As the series progresses, she is torn between the two men and their two worlds, both feeding different sides of her.
There is no shortage of fantasy creatures and happenings in this series, nor is there a shortage of romantic sparks.
A descendant of Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, 16-year-old Alyssa Gardner fears she is mentally ill like her mother and predecessors until she discovers that Wonderland is real and, if she passes a series of tests to fix Alice's mistakes, she may be able to save her family from their age-old curse.
I grew up an avid reader of childrenâs and YA fantasy, which is how I discovered the subgenre of Regency fantasy. When I stumbled across Wrede and Stevermerâs work in libraries and used bookstores, I absolutely loved it. As an adult, I enjoyed exploring the Regency romances of older authors like Georgette Heyer and Marion Chesney as well as more recent Regency writers. But when I began writing romance myself, I went back to the fantasies that were my first introduction to the Regency era. My Regency novels are primarily romance, with just a pinch of magic, but I hope both romantasy fans and historical romance readers can enjoy them.
Atwaterâs Regency fairy tales include not just human magicians but also the fae.
In Half a Soul, an elvin lord tries to steal Theadora Ettingâs soul, but her quick-thinking cousin helps her preserve half of it. With only half a soul, though, Dora both thinks differently and feels emotions differently than other people. (Author Olivia Atwater has said that Doraâs magical condition parallels real-life neurodivergence, and autistic readers may see themselves in Dora.)
Because of those differences, Dora believes herself to be unlovable, but she is proven gloriously wrong when she encounters Elias Wilder, one of the most powerful sorcerers in Europe. She and Elias work together to stop a magical plague threatening vulnerable children in workhouses.Â
âWhimsical, witty, and brimming over with charmâ (India Holton), Olivia Atwaterâs delightful debut will transport you to a magical version of Regency England, where the only thing more meddlesome than a fairy is a marriage-minded mother!
Itâs difficult to find a husband in Regency England when youâre a young lady with only half a soul.
Ever since she was cursed by a faerie, Theodora Ettings has had no sense of fear or embarrassmentâan unfortunate condition that leaves her prone to accidental scandal. Dora hopes to be a quiet, sensible wallflower during the London Seasonâbut when Elias Wilder, the strange, handsome,âŚ
I once thought I was broken, because I became so invested in the characters I read about. I carried them with me out into the real world, where their struggles kept me from focusing on my own tasks. Then I learned this connection is a feature of reading, not a bug. While some people collect book boy/girl-friendsâand I do enjoy swooning over a love interestâI am more drawn to those characters Iâd want to share a rum with or meet for a beer. Authentic characters show us weâre not alone and inspire us to grow. They become so much more to us than mere words on the page.
It is hard for me to pick only one character from this book that Iâd recruit for my crew because they each bring something different to the table. Sylvieâs tenacious spirit, Kynâs sweet loyalty, Marsâs passion, and Hylaâs bravery all could prove useful. This book was a wild ride set in a world so different from most fantasies Iâve read, but it left me with four new friends in these characters.
Mad Max: Fury Road meets Frozen in this striking YA fantasy about a rig driver's journey to save her friend
Twice-orphaned Sylvi has chipped out a niche for herself on Layce, an island cursed by eternal winter. Alone in her truck, she takes comfort in two things: the solitude of the roads and the favor of Winter, an icy spirit who has protected her since she was a child.
Sylvi likes the road, where no one asks who her parents were or what she thinks of the rebels in the north. But when her best friend, Lenore, runs off withâŚ

Every crew needs a brave cinnamon roll character, and Jest is your man for the job. This was one of the most heartbreaking books Iâve read recently, but donât let that stop you from meeting this clever idealist. He always strives to do whatâs right, even at the expense of his own happiness. Jest, Raven, Cath, and Hatta refuse to leave me long after I finished reading, and Iâm not upset about it.Â
From Marissa Meyer, the #1 New York Timesâbestselling story of Wonderland's most notorious villain: the Queen of Hearts.
Long before she was the terror of Wonderlandâthe infamous Queen of Heartsâshe was just a girl who wanted to fall in love.
Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland, and a favorite of the unmarried King of Hearts, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, all she wants is to open a shop with her best friend. But according to her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for the young woman who could be the next queen.âŚ
Iâve spent years fascinated by how the mind works. In order to better understand myself and various situations in life, I've leaned into learning about psychology and neuroplasticity. Through that, Iâve found a greater appreciation for memories and how they affect us as a whole person. As a YA fantasy author, Iâve been able to explore themes of identity surrounding memory loss and how that influences relationships with ourselves and others. As a reader, Iâm always thrilled to find another book that provides a solid twist on the amnesia trope! Below you'll find some of my best recommendations for young adult fantasy books that explore missing memories. Happy reading!
The first thing that drew me in with this book was Julietteâs unique voice; thereâs a poetic cadence to the writing style that I found so compelling, especially in audiobook format! Iâm a fan of a good dystopian bookâespecially if it has a romantic subplotâand this series delivered with rebellion, people with abilities, complicated relationships, and things not being quite as they first seemed.
Julietteâs inability to touch people without it being lethal added a lot of tension from the start. And the way memories were woven into the greater story? This brings a fun spin on the memory loss trope that expanded more and more as I read on. Itâs easily my favorite aspect of the books!Â
Stranger Things meets Shadow and Bone in this first instalment of an epic and romantic YA fantasy series - perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo, Sarah J. Maas and Victoria Aveyard. Now a TikTok phenomenon.
A fragile young teenage girl is held captive. Locked in a cell by The Reestablishment - a harsh dictatorship in charge of a crumbling world. This is no ordinary teenager. Juliette is a threat to The Reestablishment's power. A touch from her can kill - one touch is all it takes. But not only is she a threat, she is potentially the most powerful weaponâŚ
I love books that take you to another world, stories that show you bits of our reality while exploring another. Itâs thrilling to step into a world where anything can happen, where dragons exist, where our laws of nature may not apply. But also, I love seeing the familiar in fantastical places: love, friendship, and hope. Though the characters in books may inhabit worlds made mostly out of paper, ink, and imagination, their stories are universal.
While this novel is not set in another world, it does show a side of our world and history too often ignored. Travelers Along the Way is a heartfelt and humorous take on the Robin Hood tale, brimming with sisterhood, cunning disguises, and dangerous heists. It transports through clever details and unforgettable characters.Â

A transporting and unforgettable blend of science fiction, dystopia, and Old West. The world of Dustborn is both familiar and unfamiliar at once, filled with tight-knit communities, dangerous villains, and maps to a better place. In these pages, you'll find a story of survival, family, and hope
