I find I love the way the characters speak to each other, in the upscale polite manner of the Napoleonic era. And I love the relationship between Lawrence and Temeraire. I love an unshakable bond in fiction. Also, the action scenes are terribly exciting, and told with a realism that is refreshing. Great characters, both good and less so.
