Why read it?

4 authors picked Them Bones as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

Unwed, broke, and over thirty, Mississippi native Sarah Booth Delaney may live on the family plantation, but take it from me; she’s no Scarlett O’Hara. And if the not-so-Southern Belle didn’t already have enough to contend with, she’s being haunted by the wise-cracking ghost of her great-great-grandmother’s nanny, who never misses an opportunity to remind her of the mess her life has become.

I burst out laughing when the irreverent ghost scolded Sarah Booth, saying her biological clock was ticking and she better start birthing babies before her eggs got too old and dried up! If you’re like me and…

From Susie's list on mysteries with ghost characters.

I always like to start a series from the beginning, and in this one, little 6-lb Chablis (a dog) plays a critical role in the plot. A wannabe New York actress, Sarah Boothe Delaney, returns to her family home sans the family with her tail between her legs. She has money trouble, man trouble, and ghost trouble. She begins the story disgusted with Chablis but quickly falls in love with her friend’s pup.

It is a cozy mystery with just a hint of paranormal added. The writing is lovely, and the author includes a range of appealing and diverse characters.…

Maybe it’s because I see a lot of myself in them, that I’ve always been a sucker for square pegs trying to fit into round holes. So, it stands to reason that unwed, unemployed, over thirty, flat broke, and about to lose the family plantation to creditors, unconventional, but irrepressible southern belle PI Sarah Booth Delaney is my kind of gal. In this debut book of the series, we meet sassy Sarah Booth and refined Tinky, our heroine’s lifelong BFF and soon-to-be reluctant sidekick. Tinky is a true Daddy’s girl southern belle who is married to the president of the…

Sarah Booth Delaney, Southern belle and failed actress turned amateur sleuth is wily, droll, and full of real Southern charm. She will teach you the art of cloaking an insult in a compliment, the proper way to make an entrance and an exit, and how to save your family’s estate by kidnapping a friend’s dog and rescuing it for the reward. This kind of cleverness lends itself to sleuthing, particularly in an old town full of secrets, lies, and dead bodies - some haunting the mansion she’s trying to save. I loved the dialogue and the cunningness of Sarah in…
