As author John Scieszka himself says he’s sold “bazilions of books” so he sure doesn’t need my endorsement but this is such a funny book I couldn’t resist. Yes, it tells the familiar story of the three little pigs but it does so in a wildly unfamiliar way—from the wolf’s point of view. Alexander T. Wolf tells the reader what really happened and professes his innocence. Everyone knows the story of the three little pigs…or do you? I love this book because it teaches us that when we change our perspective, we see a new side of a story. Looking at something from a different angle helps develop compassion and empathy for others, which is a great thing for everyone, not just the kids! Plus, the book is funny, and who doesn’t like funny?

Another irreverent picture book, Jon Scieszka tells the well-known tale from the long-suffering wolf’s point of view, ultimately taking the story into a wild, out-of-this-world realm. Smith’s vibrant, graphic images perfectly suit the story, and Scieszka’s text is witty as the book challenges the reader, as well as the concepts of picture books themselves.
