Will I love The Return of the King?

After all of these years, I am still staggered by the emotional weight of this book.

Samwise Gamgee is the definition of faithful. I hope to someday have a small measure of the ability to create a character like Sam.

There is so much power and majesty in this story. I spent half my time analyzing everything I read each day. The complexity of the main characters was brilliantly written. I loved their interactions, their growth, their companionships, and their hopes for each other’s well-being and success. Their individual character arcs are timeless.

I reread The Lord of the Rings trilogy once a year, with the hopes of absorbing anything I can from his mastery of how language can be used to strike a blow into a reader’s mind.

The story is written so well; each paragraph is like sitting with an old friend and reminiscing about the good old days shared together. It helps through times good and not-so-good, and the range of emotions invoked are staggering. While some say it can be too flowery, I saw there are few published works as perfect as these books. What more can be said of the classic tale of good versus evil, which was penned less than a hundred years ago, but speaks of a timeless conflict as old as humanity itself? Yet what is most inspiring to me is that in this world of brave knights, powerful wizards, and deadly dragons, the true heroes are the hobbits. People viewed as insignificant by others, but whose courage saved the lives of all.
