Why read it?

2 authors picked The Prophet and the Idiot as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

When it comes to absurdist humor, no one does it better than Jonas Jonasson. If you need a few hours of escape from the world, where you'll laugh through every turn of the page, this book will do it for you.

I have read several books by Jonas Jonasson now, and he is becoming one of my very favorite authors. This story was very funny and a bit ridiculous, in a good way. Outrageous, eccentric characters in a plot that moves around the world. You can't help keep from rooting for the characters to succeed.
It is not just silly; it also a satire of people in leadership positions in government. To me, this gives this book some depth, but it never stops being funny.
