Why read it?

28 authors picked The Power of Now as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

This book helped me shift my mindset, and I first picked it up during a stressful phase of my life. I gave myself some time to simply breathe and take it in. It reminded me that the “now” is not just a passing second, but a sacred space where peace and clarity live.

I love how it helped me stop living in the echo of yesterday or the fear of tomorrow. I remember closing my eyes and whispering, “This moment is enough,” and feeling my shoulders relax for the first time in weeks. It helped me feel more connected with…

I loved this book because it helped answer many of the questions I had about my existence. Coming from an unhappy childhood, I’ve always questioned: Who am I? Why am I here? Why do I have this life and not another?

My search led me to many self-help books, yet few match this, which opened a doorway to becoming present to the life I have with a new consciousness. When I focus on the current moment and leave the past and the future behind, I find space for life to unfold naturally, leading me to achieve my greatest goals with…

This is one of my favorite books of all time. I read it at least once a year to remind myself to be more present. I have found that when I allow my thoughts to silence and focus on the now, I feel a strong sense of freedom—freedom from self-created stress.

Reading this book has helped me to let go of many unhelpful thoughts and realize that I am so much more than the thoughts swirling around in my head. This is a simple yet profound book for which I am truly grateful.

From Jackie's list on help you reduce stress.

Book cover of The High House

The High House by James Stoddard,

The Victorian mansion, Evenmere, is the mechanism that runs the universe.

The lamps must be lit, or the stars die. The clocks must be wound, or Time ceases. The Balance between Order and Chaos must be preserved, or Existence crumbles.

I love this book because it shows how to leave the ego behind and live in freedom. A passage in the Introduction immediately caught my attention. The author, who had a history of depression, finds himself saying, “I cannot live with myself any longer.” He suddenly realizes that he must be the “I” and that the “self” he can’t live with is just a fiction. This stuns him, his mind stops, and he wakes up, simple as that.

The rest of the book simply develops and amplifies that critical thought. It’s a realization we can all have. In fact, we’ll…

The past has gone and can’t be changed; the future hasn’t happened yet. All we have is now. Yet so many of us pick over our pasts or spend far too much time worrying about the future and, in doing so, lose all those precious moments that make up the ‘now.’

The mainstay of therapy is bringing people back into the present to enjoy their lives more, and no book has done this quite so well as this one. It’s both thoughtful and therapeutic, philosophical and spiritual. Spirituality is considered a character strength in positive psychology (an attribute that, when…

I heard of this book before I got sober. I felt it was too “Western trying to be Eastern Healers” and for people who had personal dysfunctions that I couldn't relate to.

I came across it again after sobriety and realized that I was running from my past and making up a future based on my fears of the past, never really being present, which was a wack in the gut for the better. The road to healing was way more understandable when I accepted the present, knowing that I also had the power to change anything I wanted.

From Margarette's list on making it fun to be a better person.

Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now revolutionizes the approach to spiritual teachings.

Its brilliance lies in its simplicity and accessibility. In my opinion, Tolle strips away complex jargon (I think we have had enough Sanskrit), presenting profound ideas about mindfulness and living in the present in a language that's easy to understand.

This book is like a primer, perfect for anyone seeking an entry point into the world of self-awareness and presence. Whether you're new to these concepts or familiar with them, The Power of Now offers a refreshing and straightforward path to understanding and embracing the power of the…

I used to be severely depressed. In 2005, I stumbled upon The Power of Now in a bookstore.

This book literally worked miracles in my life. It taught me that by letting go of my debilitating thoughts and focusing on the present moment, I could find instant relief. During the peak of a painful emotion, I learned to shift my attention to the world around me, observing a flower, a tree… and I saw these objects in a new light, in their pristine identities. This eased my mind and body.

After my encounter with this book, my life and mind…

I love the message of living in the now.

While I’m a natural planner, I must be careful not planning my life out to the minute for months on end and getting bogged down by all the planning for the future. This book reminds me of the beauty of the present and to sit still every once in a while, to enjoy the now, the present – because the past no longer truly exists and neither does the future which has not happened.

It reminds me that if I’m not present, I can miss out on the gifts of what…

This book changed my life for the better.

I have read many books searching for answers to “why.”  Eckhart Tolle provides explanations (cause and effect), and methods (tools for personal and spiritual growth), and does it succinctly, in easy-to-understand terms.

If you are searching for wisdom so that you can better navigate life, relationships, longevity, abundance, and peace of mind and heart, you most likely will benefit from reading and applying the methods to enlightenment that he shares.

I successfully applied his teachings to my life and now find that I am very consistently in a peaceful state of mind…
