Why read it?

4 authors picked The Other Einstein as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

The detailed description of the struggles a young intelligent woman faces, in a professional domain dominated by men, that is depicted in this book, is a very appealing topic for nowadays, especially when characters are inspired by reality.

The writing is affectionate and insightful, even when it describes traumatic episodes, thus adding to the charm of the strong main female character.

The book raises questions to the reader about the authenticity of agreed-upon history, unknown merits, justice and gender equality.

Is it any wonder that Einstein’s wife, Maric, and he drifted apart as the years passed when we learn the story behind the story? His wife was a brilliant physicist in her own right. In fact, the theory of relativity may have been inspired by her profound intellect. It is my impression that in a relationship, one is more outgoing than the other. Relationships where partnerships co-exist and each person’s skills and intellect are validated and appreciated may be outside the norm. Maric’s story encourages me to affirm my own gifts.

The Other Einstein is a biography about Albert Einstein’s first wife, Maleva. I was attracted to this book because I appreciate stories about strong woman who have to fight their way to be noticed. The ancient female protagonist in my own book is similar. She must fight her way out of a dangerous situation to get what she wants.

From Sherry's list on historical novels to get lost in.

Marie Benedict’s novels are known for introducing us to overlooked women throughout history, In The Other Einstein, we meet Mileva Einstein. I’m so glad to have learned more about her. I knew very little about her relationship with Albert Einstein—and how he often overshadowed her. Still, Mileva—like Beryl—is someone who breaks the female norms of their time and who seeks to make it in a man's world. Though—like Eleanor Dumont—she often has to bend to men and outside forces while she tries to remain true to herself.
