Why read it?
1 author picked The Original as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?
The Original tells the story of Katherine Hepburn's early years in Hollywood, revealing the relationship she had with another woman. All the greats are here: David and Irene Selznick; John Ford; Howard Hughes; and Cary Grant. The novel is unflinching in its account of Grant's and Hepburn's same-sex relationships, which their studios managed to keep out of the public eye. The language is jaunty and clipped, rather like Hepburn's personality! I enjoyed this well-researched peek into 1930s Hollywood.
