Will I love The Odessa File?

ODESSA was a port-war organization established to re-establish the power of SS mass murderers throughout the world and carry out Hitler’s Final Solution 20 years after his death.

In researching for ODESSA Files, Forsyth talked to several former SS members and used their memories to enhance the atmosphere and feeling of reality throughout the book.

It’s a look at what Hitler and the SS had in mind for the world. Almost every chapter bristles with suspense and excitement when a journalist starts to expose them. It’s cleverly plotted and has you on edge from start to finish.

If The Boys from Brazil had never been published (a very sad thought, indeed), The Odessa File would occupy the mantle of my favorite book.

As it stands, however, Frederick Forsyth’s third novel—which was released only a year after Day of the Jackal—must content itself with second place.

With all of that said, I don’t think the Morris Baker Universe would exist without the influence of this thrilling tale about a secret network of Nazi war criminals that not only shields its members from the retribution of war crimes tribunals, but also attempts to alter world events… especially where… show more.

Searching for a story, a young German crime reporter stumbles on a case of suicide by a Holocaust survivor.

Having read the dead man’s diary, he starts investigating the allegations it contained. What he comes across shocks him and propels him into the dangerous territory of covert Nazi activities. From then on he finds not only his own, but also his girlfriend’s life being threatened. 

Fascism and the Nazis played a great part in my formative years and I had not only witnessed, but actually suffered their ruthlessness.
