Will I love The Mummy?

Written in the style of Victorian mummy stories, this is a perfect standalone tale for lovers of Anne Rice or gothic fiction in general. Is the mummy a brilliant philosopher who can teach the modern world wisdom lost to history? Or is the mummy a threat to modern society whose vengeance becomes more severe as time passes? 

Anne Rice tackles the subject of Ancient Egyptian mysticism with style, depth, and, of course, her signature sex appeal. 

I found this to be a surprisingly elegant and sensuous read for a novel about an ancient Egyptian mummy. Awakening in Edwardian London and consuming the elixir of life, the revivified Rameses is doomed to wander the earth without satisfying his unquenchable desires, pursuing a beautiful aristocrat while desperately longing for the ancient beauty, Cleopatra.

If you haven’t read The Mummy by Anne Rice, you’re totally missing out. Her deliciously intense prose and ability to render an environment with emotional impact always thrills me. And while I love the Vampire Lestat books, the tale of Ramses and Julie is part Beauty and the Beast, part Raiders of the Lost Ark, and all awesome.
