Why read it?

1 author picked The Mourning Parade as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

I absolutely love animal stories but am usually let down when the animal content represents only a smidge of the actual story. Not so in this case. Sophie the elephant’s story is given as much space as Natalie’s story (the human main character). Both Natalie and Sophie have experienced heart-wrenching trauma, and the way they heal together made me laugh, cry, feel humbled by the healing potential of animal-human bonds, and take heart in the resilience of animal and human spirits.
