Will I love The Moonstone?

I read this novel as a teenager who had just moved from the heavier Russian and Hindi classics to the lighter English ones. And was I hooked! It remains a lifelong favourite. 

The men in The Moonstone think they're running the show. They aren't. The women are—through letters, through silences, through one servant girl whose sections broke my heart so thoroughly I had to put the book down and go have a handful of namkeen.

What a big book! But what a great read! Every night I got into bed and escaped into another world through this book - a world of elegance, mystery and intrigue. I love mystery novels and The Moonstone is definitely one of the best I've read!

I was looking for a writer to breathe new life into the sometimes-stuffy traditional English novel format, and Wilkie Collins is that man.
