Will I love The Magician's Daughter?

This was such a wonderful book, charming and quaint, and with a world that completely drew me in.

It's enchanting magical system seemed to arise naturally from the earth, and Biddie was such a relatable and lovely character.

The audiobook was excellent as well, with perfect Irish accents and a great flow to the story.

I randomly picked this book up in a rush out of the library and was pleasantly surprised. I’m a big fan of YA literature, but it’s often a challenge to find one with a female protagonist that doesn’t involve romance. Instead, this story is about loyalty to our family and fighting for something greater than ourselves. 

Biddy is a fantastic protagonist—resourceful, honest, and curious but also self-conscious, insecure, and stubborn. I found so much to love in this story of found family and hidden magic—an enchanted isle, a guardian wizard and his rabbit familiar, and a young woman with a concealed past, all devoted to one another.

The bonds between the wizard, his adopted daughter, and their rabbit familiar were simply lovely, and the sacrifices they made in their quest to save what magic remains in their world were compelling. Despite trials the characters endure, the story still captured a cozy feel which would make it a fantastic winter read.
