As a huge fan of Dorothy Sayers, I always have mixed feelings about an author writing a new Lord Peter Whimsey novel, "Based on the characters." But Jill Paton Walsh does an excellent job of recreating the spirit, dialogue, and the atmosphere of a Lord Peter mystery, and this time, his wife, Harriet Vane, is along to help with the investigation as they return to the Oxford of Gaudy Night. This was a satisfying read and a welcome chance to spend time with characters I really love.
